Folding Top Cover Side Tension Cable Replacement

Removal Procedure

1. Remove the weatherstrip and the retainer from the rear side rail. Refer to Folding Top Side Rear Weatherstrip Replacement Folding Top Side Rear Weatherstrip Replacement and Folding Top Side Rear Weatherstrip Retainer Replacement Folding Top Side Rear Weatherstrip Retainer Replacement.

2. Remove the weatherstrip and the retainer from the front side rail. Refer to Folding Top Side Front Weatherstrip Replacement Folding Top Side Front Weatherstrip Replacement and Folding Top Side Front Weatherstrip Retainer Replacement Folding Top Side Front Weatherstrip Retainer Replacement.





3. Position the top with the number 1 bow and the number 5 bow up.





4. Raise the top cover flap and remove the screw (1) that attaches the tension cable to the rear side rail.





5. Remove the headliner screws (1) from the number 1 bow.





6. Remove the tension cable end from the number 1 bow retaining hole.





7. Attach approximately 5 feet of 16-gauge wire to the end of the tension cable to assist in the reinstalling.

8. From the rear of the top remove the tension cable, leaving the wire in the top pocket.

9. Disconnect the tension cable from the wire.

Installation Procedure





Note:
Attach the new tension cable to the end of the wire that was used in the removal. Pull the wire forward until the cable is in the proper position. Remove the wire from the end of the tension cable. Refer to the opposite side for proper routing.

1. From the rear of the top install the end of the tension cable to the wire, pull the wire through the top pocket with the tension cable.





2. Insert the tension cable end into the number 1 bow hole, pressing firmly on the cable end, allowing it to stick to the number 1 bow. Using mask tape or equivalent to secure the tension cable end in place, if needed

3. Install the weatherstrip and the retainer to the front side rail. Refer to Folding Top Side Front Weatherstrip Replacement Folding Top Side Front Weatherstrip Replacement and Folding Top Side Front Weatherstrip Retainer Replacement Folding Top Side Front Weatherstrip Retainer Replacement.





Caution:
Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.

4. Install the headliner screws (1) to the number 1 bow and tighten to 2 Nm (18 lb in).

5. Remove the mask tape from the tension cable end.





6. Install the tension cable screw (1) to the rear side rail and tighten to 2 Nm (18 lb in).

7. Position the top with the number 1 bow and the number 5 bow down.

8. Install the weatherstrip and the retainer to the rear side rail. Refer to Folding Top Side Rear Weatherstrip Replacement Folding Top Side Rear Weatherstrip Replacement and Folding Top Side Rear Weatherstrip Retainer Replacement Folding Top Side Rear Weatherstrip Retainer Replacement.

9. Close the roof and check the alignments.

1. Door window to the weatherstrip and retainer.

2. Front bow to header weatherstrip.
