Battery Negative Cable Replacement




Battery Negative Cable Replacement (V6)

Removal Procedure




1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Single Battery) Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Single Battery)Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (TP2) Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (TP2).
2. Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connector (2) from the battery current sensor.




3. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle Service and Repair.
4. Remove the oil pan skid plate and bolts, if equipped.Refer toOil Pan Skid Plate Replacement (2500/3500 with RPO NZZ)




5. Remove the negative battery cable bolt (2) from the front of the engine block.
6. Reposition the negative battery cable terminal (1) and the engine wiring harness terminal (3) from the engine block.




7. Remove the forward lamp wiring harness ground bolt (1).
8. Remove the forward lamp wiring harness terminal (2) from the frame.
9. Remove the negative battery cable terminal (3) out through the opening between the radiator support and frame.




10. Remove the negative battery cable clip (1) from the chassis harness.
11. Lower the vehicle.
12. Remove the negative battery cable clip (2) from the right wheelhouse liner.




13. Remove the negative battery cable from the vehicle.
14. If replacing the negative battery cable, remove the battery current sensor. Refer to Battery Current Sensor Replacement Service and Repair.

Installation Procedure




1. If the negative battery cable was replaced, install the battery current sensor. Refer to Battery Current Sensor Replacement Service and Repair.
2. Install the negative battery cable to the vehicle.




3. Install the negative battery cable clip (2) to the right wheelhouse liner.
4. Raise and support the vehicle.
5. Install the negative battery cable clip (1) to the chassis harness.




6. Install the negative battery cable clip (2) to the right wheelhouse liner.
7. Install the negative battery cable clip (1) to the chassis harness.




8. Route the negative battery cable terminal (3) through the opening between the radiator support and frame.
9. Ensure that the negative battery cable is positioned behind the forward lamp harness.
10. Install the forward lamp wiring harness terminal (2) to the frame. Ensure that the anti-rotation tab is inserted into the hole in the frame.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.

11. Install the forward lamp wiring harness ground bolt (1) and tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb ft).




12. Position the engine wiring harness terminal (3) against the engine block and position the negative battery cable terminal (1) on top of the engine wiring harness terminal.
13. Install the negative battery cable bolt (2) to the front of the engine block and tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb ft).




14. If applicable, position the oil pan skid plate and install the bolts and tighten to 28 Nm (21 lb ft).
15. Lower the vehicle.




16. Install the battery current sensor clip to the battery tray.
17. Connect the engine wiring harness electrical connector (2) to the battery current sensor.
18. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Single Battery) Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Single Battery)Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (TP2) Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (TP2).
