Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview

A visual inspection consists of physically looking for the possible cause of a malfunction.

A careful and thorough visual inspection of components may quickly identify the cause of a malfunction and eliminate the need for diagnostic testing.

If a malfunction is not found by visual inspection, proceed with diagnostic testing.

1. If the airbag module housing shows signs of damage or abuse, replace the module.
2. Ensure both front impact sensors are properly installed to the upper crossmember of the radiator closure panel.
3. Check the airbag warning lamp for proper operation as follows:
a. Turn ignition switch to the On position.
b. If the airbag warning lamp does not light, test the system using the DRB II diagnostic test tool.
c. If the airbag warning lamp lights, but fails to go out after ten seconds, test the system using the DRB II diagnostic tool.
d. Repair the system as necessary.
