Water Pump - Removal

3.3/3.8L ENGINE





1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Raise vehicle.
3. Drain the cooling system. Service and Repair
4. Remove the right front wheel and inner shield.
5. Remove the accessory drive belt (2). Serpentine Accessory Drive Belt - Removal
6. Remove the vibration dampener (7).





7. Lower vehicle
8. Remove the air cleaner (5) assembly and the intake duct (4).






NOTE: When using a jack. Use a piece of wood or a thick piece of rubber on the jack so damage will come to the underside of the engine.

9. Support the engine with a jack.
10. Remove the right side engine mount (1) assembly by removing the frame side bolts (2) and the engine side bolts (3).
11. Raise the engine.
12. Remove the idler pulley.





13. Remove the water pump pulley bolts (4)
14. Rotate pulley (3) until openings in pulley align with water pump drive hub spokes. Move pulley inward between pump housing and hub.
15. Position pulley to allow access to water pump mounting bolts (5).
16. Remove water pump pulley bolts (5).
17. Remove water pump with the pulley loosely positioned between hub and the pump body.
18. Remove and discard the seal.
19. Clean seal groove and sealing surfaces on pump and timing chain case cover. Take care not to scratch or gouge sealing surfaces.
