Catalytic Converter - Removal

4.0L ENGINE






WARNING: If torches are used when servicing the exhaust system, do not allow any flame near the fuel lines or the fuel tank. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
2. Raise and support the vehicle.
3. Remove the nuts from the front exhaust pipe and catalytic converter assembly to muffler flange.
4. Saturate the bolts (3 and 5) and nuts with heat valve lubricant. Allow 5 minutes for penetration.
5. Disconnect oxygen sensor electrical connectors.
6. Separate the front exhaust pipe to manifold flange connection (2).
7. Lower the front exhaust pipe/catalytic converter assembly and slide the isolator (4) out of the mount at the transmission (if equipped).
8. Remove the front exhaust pipe/catalytic converter assembly from the vehicle.
