A/C Underbody Extension Lines - Installation

INSTALLATION

CAUTION: Be certain to adjust the refrigerant oil level when servicing the A/C refrigerant system Refrigerant Oil Level . Failure to properly adjust the refrigerant oil level will prevent the A/C system from operating as designed and can cause serious A/C compressor damage.

NOTE: When replacing multiple A/C system components, see the Refrigerant Oil Capacities chart to determine how much oil should be added to the refrigerant system Refrigerant Oil Level .

NOTE: Replacement of the refrigerant line O-ring seals is required anytime an underbody refrigerant line is disconnected. Failure to replace the rubber O-ring seals may result in a refrigerant system leak.

1. Remove the tape or plugs from the opened refrigerant line fittings.
2. Lubricate new rubber O-ring seals with clean refrigerant oil and install them onto the refrigerant line fittings. Use only the specified O-rings as they are made of a special material for the R-134a refrigerant system. Use only refrigerant oil of the type recommended for the A/C compressor in the vehicle.
3. Position the A/C underbody extension lines (2) into the engine compartment. Rotate and tilt the A/C underbody extension lines as necessary.
4. Connect the A/C underbody extension lines to the front A/C liquid and suction lines (1).
5. Tighten the liquid line fitting nut (3) to 23 Nm (17 ft. lbs.).
6. Tighten the suction fitting nut to 37 Nm (27 ft. lbs.).

7. Raise and support the vehicle.
8. Remove the tape or plugs from the opened refrigerant line fittings.
10. Connect the A/C underbody extension lines (5) to the underbody refrigerant lines (2).
11. Tighten the liquid line fitting nut (3) to 23 Nm (17 ft. lbs.).
12. Tighten the suction fitting nut (4) to 37 Nm (27 ft. lbs.).
13. Position the A/C underbody extension lines into the underbody line bracket (1) and engage the bracket retainer.
14. Lower the vehicle.
15. Reconnect the negative battery cable.

CAUTION: Do NOT run the engine with a vacuum pump in operation or with a vacuum present within the A/C system when equipped with a variable displacement compressor. Failure to follow these instructions will result in serious A/C compressor damage.

16. Evacuate the refrigerant system Refrigerant System Evacuate.
17. Adjust the refrigerant oil level Refrigerant Oil Level.
18. Charge the refrigerant system Refrigerant System Charge.
