Description
DESCRIPTION
The steering angle sensor (SAS) is an integral part of the clockspring (2) mounted on the steering column Clockspring - Description.
The SAS detects steering wheel direction, angular magnitude and rotational velocity and transmits this data over the high speed serial communication bus (CAN-C) for the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) system.
The SAS (5) includes an integral Local Interface Network (LIN) data bus master node and is also a gateway to the Controller Area Network (CAN) data bus network. The SAS relays switch status data from the following:
- Horn Switch
- Right Steering Wheel Switch
- Left Steering Wheel Switch
- Remote Radio Switches
- Multi-Function Switch, which includes:
- Headlamp Beam Selection
- Front and Rear Wipers
- Turn Signals
