Transponder Key - Description
DESCRIPTION
Three unique variations of a transponder key are available for this vehicle. They are:
- Sentry Key Immobilizer System Transponder Key - The Sentry Key Immobilizer System (SKIS) transponder key (1) is used in combination with a Keyless Ignition Node (KIN) (also known as the IGnition Node Module/IGNM) featuring a rotary-type ignition switch. This transponder key is used only for fleet vehicles that are not equipped with the optional Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) system.
- Remote Keyless Entry System Transponder Key - The Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) system transponder key (2) is also known as a FOB with Integrated Key (FOBIK). Like the SKIS transponder key, the RKE FOBIK transponder key is used in combination with a Keyless Ignition Node (KIN) (also known as the IGnition Node Module/IGNM) featuring a rotary-type ignition switch. This transponder key is used for vehicles that are equipped with the RKE system, but not with the optional Passive Entry Keyless Go (PEKG) system.
- Passive Entry Keyless Go System Transponder Key - The Passive Entry Keyless Go (PEKG) system transponder key (3) is also known as a FOB with Integrated Key (FOBIK). However, unlike the SKIS transponder key and the RKE FOBIK transponder key, the PEKG transponder key is used in combination with a Keyless Ignition Node (KIN) (also known as the IGnition Node Module/IGNM) featuring a push button-type ignition switch. This transponder key is used only for vehicles that are equipped with the PEKG system.
Regardless of the type of transponder key used for this vehicle, in addition to having to be cut to match the mechanical coding of the door lock cylinders and programmed for operation of the RKE system, each ignition key has a transponder microchip included that carries a unique transponder identification code. This identification code that is permanently programmed into it by the manufacturer must be programmed into the Radio Frequency Hub Module (RFHM) (also known as the RF Hub) to be recognized by the SKIS as a valid key.
The Sentry Key transponder key cannot be adjusted or repaired. If ineffective or damaged, the entire transponder key or FOBIK and RKE transmitter unit must be replaced.
