Installation
INSTALLATION
CAUTION:
When supporting or lifting the transmission at the oil pan the weight of the transmission must be distributed evenly on the lifting fixture. Failure to do so could damage the oil pan and transmission.
NOTE:
Make sure that the transmission dowel pins are seated in engine block and protrude far enough to hold transmission in alignment.
1. Install the torque converter Torque Converter - Installation.
2. For 4WD only, position the extension housing (2), install the seven bolts (1) and tighten to 27 Nm (20 ft. lbs.).
3. Verify that the rubber access plugs (1) are installed in the front of the transmission.
NOTE:
Hold torque converter in place during transmission installation.
4. Position the transmission to the vehicle.
5. Install the upper bell housing bolts (1, 2) securing the bell housing to the engine block. Do not tighten at this time.
6. Install the LH bell housing bolts (1). Do not tighten at this time.
7. Install the RH bell housing bolts (1). Tighten all the bell housing bolts to 55 Nm (41 ft. lbs.)
8. Install bell housing dust shield (2). Tighten bolt (1) to 12 Nm (106 in. lbs.).
9. Rotate crankshaft in clockwise direction to line up the alignment hole (1) in the flex plate, then start the first bolt.
10. Rotate crankshaft in clockwise direction until converter bolts (1) are accessible. There are three sets of two bolts 120° apart. Install the remaining bolts and tighten to 42 Nm (31 ft. lbs.).
11. Connect the transmission cooler lines (1) to the transmission heater.
12. Connect the coolant lines (2) to the transmission heater.
13. Install crossmember adapter bracket to the transfer case. Only install two bolts at this time. Tighten bolts to 75 Nm (41 ft. lbs.).
14. Position the crossmember, install the bolts (1) to the frame and tighten to 65 Nm (90 ft. lbs.).
15. Install the four remaining bolts through trans mount into the transfer case adapter bracket. Tighten bolts to 66 Nm (34 ft. lbs.).
16. Remove the transmission jack (1).
17. Position fuel lines (1) into the bracket (2).
18. Install the top coolant line bracket on the right side of bell housing. Tighten bolt (2) to 45 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).
19. Install the lower right coolant line bracket and tighten bolt (1) to 45 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).
20. Install the left side coolant line bracket and position the bolt (2) through the manual park release lever bracket.
21. Position the manual park release cable bracket/cable, install the bolts (2) and tighten to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).
22. Connect the parking pawl release cable (1) to the lever (2).
23. Install the center exhaust pipe.
24. Install the transfer case if equipped .
25. Install the rear propeller shaft (RWD).
26. Install the starter Service and Repair.
27. Install the transfer case and transmission vent hose.
28. Route the wire harness for the transmission and transfer case.
29. Connect the adapter plug connector (1) to the transmission.
30. Turn the locking mechanism lock (1) of the adapter plug connector (2) clockwise to secure.
31. Connect the negative battery cable.
32. Perform the STANDARD PROCEDURE - TRANSMISSION FILL AFTER SERVICE, Service and Repair.
