Remote Radio Switches - Removal

REMOVAL

WARNING: To avoid serious or fatal injury on vehicles equipped with airbags, disable the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) before attempting any steering wheel, steering column, airbag, seat belt tensioner, impact sensor or instrument panel component diagnosis or service. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative (ground) cable, then wait two minutes for the system capacitor to discharge before performing further diagnosis or service. This is the only sure way to disable the SRS. Failure to take the proper precautions could result in accidental airbag deployment.

1. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.
2. From the back of the steering wheel (1), access and remove the screw (3) that secures the left spoke front bezel to the steering wheel.
3. From the face of the steering wheel, pull the outboard side of the front spoke bezel up from the steering wheel far enough to disengage the lip on the inboard side of the bezel from under the edge of the driver airbag trim cover.
4. Pull the front spoke bezel (2) away from the steering wheel far enough to access and disconnect the electrical connector from the receptacle (1).
5. Disengage the four remote radio switch latches that secure the switch to the inside of the mounting hole in the steering wheel rear trim cover.
6. Using a trim stick, gently pry switch from steering wheel at locations shown (2).
7. Disconnect remote radio electrical connector.
8. Remove the remote radio switch from steering wheel.
