Cylinder Head - Removal





REMOVAL





1. Remove the camshaft bearing housing Camshaft Bearing Housing - Removal.





2. Remove the maniverter (4) Exhaust Manifold - Removal.





3. Remove the bolt (2) and the side timing belt cover (1).





4. Unlock and disconnect the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) harness connectors (1 and 2).





5. Disengage two starter wire harness retainers (6) from the battery tray (3).
6. Disengage two engine wire harness retainers (4) from the battery tray (3).
7. Disengage the engine wire harness connector (2) from the battery tray (3) and reposition the wire harness.
8. Remove the nut (5) and two bolts (1).





9. Open the two wire harness retainers (3) and reposition the wire harness.
10. Remove the nut (1) and the ground strap (4).
11. Remove the battery tray with the PCM (2) attached.






CAUTION: The vacuum hose and the pressurized coolant bottle return hose have the same quick-connect fitting end. If removing both hoses, it is recommended that the hoses be marked at disassembly to avoid an incorrect installation. Failure to properly install the hoses can result in engine damage.

12. Disconnect the pressurized coolant bottle return hose (2).
13. Loosen the clamp (3) and disconnect the lower radiator hose.
14. Remove the bolt (4) and disconnect the oil filter housing coolant return hose.





15. Unlock and disconnect the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor electrical connector (2).
16. Disconnect the heater core inlet hose (1).





17. Using the sequence shown, remove the cylinder head retaining bolts.





18. Remove the cylinder head and gasket (1). Discard the gasket.





19. If required, remove the bolts (2) and the thermostat housing from the cylinder head.





20. If required, remove the tensioner lock nut (1) and the tensioner (2) from the cylinder head.
