Starter - Removal





REMOVAL





1. Disconnect the negative and positive battery cables.
2. Remove the battery.
3. Disconnect the powertrain control module (PCM) harness connectors.
4. Disconnect the powertrain control module ground strap from the battery (-) terminal.
5. Disengage the two starter wire harness retainers (6) from the battery tray (3).
6. Disengage the engine wire harness connector (2) from the battery tray (3) and reposition.
7. Remove the nut (5) and two bolts (1).
8. Open the two wire harness retainers (3) and reposition the wire harness.





9. Remove the battery tray (1) keeping the PCM (2) attached.





10. Remove the engine cover (1).





11. Remove the air cleaner assembly (1) Air Cleaner Body - Removal.





12. Remove the starter bolt access plug (1) located on the back side of the transmission bellhousing to gain access to the top starter bolt.





13. Remove the starter bolt (2) through the access hole (1) in the transmission bellhousing.
14. Support and raise the vehicle.





15. Remove the belly pan (1) covering the bottom side of the engine compartment.





16. Remove the lower cradle brace retainers (1).
17. Remove the lower cradle brace (2).





18. Remove the retainer (1) from the starter solenoid (3).
19. Disconnect the starter solenoid harness connector (2).
20. Remove the starter retainers (4).
21. Remove the starter assembly (5).
