AE: Dual Generator Lower Fault Detected
Test AE: Dual Generator Lower Fault Detected (P1106)AE1 - Check The Lower Generator Connections
Check lower generator connectors for damage and correct connection.
Are the lower generator connectors OK and correctly connected?
YES GO to AE2.
NO REPAIR connectors as necessary. CLEAR the PCM codes and TEST the system for normal operation.
AE2 - Check The Lower Generator Voltage
AE2:
Measure the voltage at the B+ terminal of the lower generator.
Is the voltage equal to battery voltage?
YES GO to AE3.
NO CHECK the B+ circuit 38 (BK/OG) including fuse links. REPAIR as necessary. CLEAR the PCM codes and TEST the system for normal operation.
AE3 - Check The Lower Generator A Circuit
AE3:
Measure the voltage between the lower generator C1198 terminal A, circuit 35 (OG/LB), harness side and ground.
Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
YES GO to AE4.
NO CHECK lower generator A circuit 35 (OG/LB) including fuse links. REPAIR as necessary. CLEAR the codes and TEST the system for normal operation.
AE4 - Lower Generator I Circuit Voltage
NOTE: Wait at least two minutes for glow plug cycle to turn off.
AE4:
Measure the voltage between the lower generator C1198 terminal I, circuit 1185 (YE), harness side and ground.
Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
YES GO to AE6.
NO GO to AE5.
AE5 - Check Lower Generator I Circuit For High Resistance Or An Open
AE5:
Measure the resistance between the lower generator C1198 terminal I, circuit 1185 (YE), harness side and the PCM C154 pin 60, circuit 1185 (YE) harness side.
Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
YES GO to AE8.
NO REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
AE6 - Check Lower Generator Voltage
NOTE: After starting engine, wait at least two minutes for the glow plugs to turn off.
AE6:
With the engine running, measure the voltage at the battery.
Is the voltage greater than 13 volts?
YES GO to AE7.
NO INSTALL a new lower generator. CLEAR the codes and TEST the system for normal operation.
AE7 - Check The Lower Generator Output
Verify the lower generator output. Refer to component test, Generator On-Vehicle Tests, Load Test. Generator Testing
Is the lower generator OK?
YES System is operating normally. RECONNECT all connectors, CLEAR the codes and TEST the system for normal operation.
NO INSTALL a new lower generator. CLEAR the codes and TEST the system for normal operation.
AE8 - Check For Correct Module Operation
Check:
- for corrosion
- for pushed-out pins
- connector seated correctly
Connect any disconnected connectors.
Make sure all other system connectors are fully seated.
Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
Is the concern still present?
YES INSTALL a new PCM. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the PCM self-test.
NO The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
