Normal Operation
The charging system warning indicator is controlled by the instrument cluster based upon data received from the generator through circuit 904 (LG/RD). The instrument cluster sets diagnostic trouble code (DTC) B1317 if the battery voltage exceeds 16.5 volts DC ± 0.5 volt DC, when the ignition switch is in the START or RUN position. The instrument cluster sets DTC B1318 if battery voltage drops to less than 9 volts DC ± 0.5 volt DC, when the ignition switch is in the START or RUN position.

Possible Causes
- circuit 904 (LG/RD) open
- charging system
- powertrain control module (PCM)
- instrument cluster
