PINPOINT TEST U: THE WATER IN FUEL WARNING INDICATOR IS NEVER/ALWAYS ON

Normal Operation
The powertrain control module (PCM) is hardwired to a water in fuel sensor. When water is detected in the fuel, the PCM sends a message over the communication network to the instrument cluster, to illuminate the water in fuel indicator.

DTC P1139 - is a continuous and on-demand DTC that sets if the instrument cluster detects an open in the water in fuel circuitry internally within the instrument cluster. The DTC can only be set if the PCM is commanding the water in fuel warning indicator on.
