Test K: The Brake Warning Indicator Is Always On

PINPOINT TEST K: THE BRAKE WARNING INDICATOR IS ALWAYS ON

Normal Operation
The instrument cluster (IC) uses 3 strategies to operate the brake warning indicator: parking brake status, brake fluid level, and the base brake system integrity. When the parking brake is applied, circuit 162 (LG/RD) to the instrument cluster (IC) is grounded by the parking brake switch through circuit 57 (BK). The instrument cluster (IC) receives the ground signal and illuminates the brake warning indicator. The instrument cluster (IC) receives the brake fluid level status from the brake fluid level switch through circuits 512 (TN/LG) and 531 (DG/YE). When the instrument cluster detects the brake fluid level switch is disconnected, or the brake fluid level is low, the instrument cluster (IC) illuminates the brake warning indicator.

- DTC B2479 (Park Brake Switch Circuit Short to Ground) - is an on-demand DTC that sets if the instrument cluster (IC) detects a short to ground on the parking brake input, circuit 162 (LG/RD).

NOTE: The brake fluid level switch is part of the master cylinder and is not installed separately.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- Parking brake switch
- Brake fluid level switch (part of the master cylinder)
- Instrument cluster (IC)
