Parking Brake Shoe: Service and Repair




Parking Brake Shoes













Removal

All vehicles

1. NOTE: Make sure the parking brake control is fully released.

Relieve the tension on the parking brake cable. For additional information, refer to Parking Brake Cable Tension Release Procedures.

Vehicles with dual rear wheels (DRW)

2. Remove the wheel hub.

Vehicles with Single Rear Wheel (SRW)

3. Remove the brake disc.

All vehicles

4. Remove the park brake shoe adjusting screw.

5. Remove the park brake shoe adjusting screw spring.

6. Remove the park brake shoe hold-down spring retainers, springs and pins.

7. Position the park brake shoes apart and remove the brake shoes and the retracting spring from the axle.

Installation

NOTE: Lubricate the parking brake shoes where the shoe contacts the wear pad on the backing plate with the specified silicone grease.

All vehicles

1. Install the retraction spring and position the parking brake shoe assembly on the axle.

2. Position the 2 hold-down pins and install the 2 brake shoe hold-down springs and retainers.

3. Install the brake shoe adjusting screw spring.

4. Position the brake shoe adjusting screw.

5. Adjust the parking brake shoes. For additional information, refer to Parking Brake Shoe Adjustment Adjustments.

Vehicles with SRW

6. Install the rear brake disc.

7. Install the wheel hub.

All vehicles

8. Reload the tension on the parking brake cable. For additional information, refer to Parking Brake Cable Tension Release Procedures.
