Muffler and Tailpipe

Removal and Installation

All vehicles

1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.

2. Support the muffler and tail pipe assembly with a safety stand.

3. Release all the muffler and tail pipe assembly hanger isolators.

4. Loosen the muffler and tail pipe assembly Torca(R) clamp.
- To install, tighten to 55 Nm (41 lb-ft).

5. If equipped with a tail pipe extension, loosen the tail pipe extension Torca(R) clamp and remove the tail pipe extension from the vehicle.
- To install, tighten to 55 Nm (41 lb-ft).

6. Remove the RH rear upper shock absorber nut.
- To install, tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).

7. Remove the RH rear lower shock absorber nut and the shock absorber.
- To install, tighten to 80 Nm (59 lb-ft).

Van/Wagon

8. Remove the muffler and tail pipe assembly from the exhaust Y-pipe.

Stripped chassis

9. Remove the muffler and tail pipe assembly from the catalytic converter or, if equipped, the extension pipe.

All vehicles

10. Remove the muffler and tail pipe assembly from the vehicle.

11. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
- If a new Torca(R) clamp needs to be installed, refer to Torca(R) Clamp Torca(R) Clamp.
