Transfer Case - Power Transfer Unit (PTU) - Removal




Power Transfer Unit (PTU)









All vehicles

1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to Vehicle Jacking and Lifting.

2. Drain the Power Transfer Unit (PTU). For additional information, refer to Power Transfer Unit (PTU) Draining and Filling Procedures.

3. Remove the front RH intermediate shaft. For additional information, refer to Drive Axles, Bearings and Joints.

4. Remove the driveshaft. For additional information, refer to Drive/Propeller Shafts, Bearings and Joints.

5. Remove the 4 bolts and the crossmember brace.





Vehicles equipped with 3.0L

6. Remove the catalytic converter - 3.0L manifold. For additional information, refer to Exhaust System &/or Catalytic Converter.

All vehicles

7. Remove the 3 PTU heat shield bolts and the PTU heat shield.

Vehicles equipped with 2.5L and hybrid

8. Remove the 2 exhaust bracket nuts.

Hybrid vehicles

9. Remove the 2 bolts and the exhaust bracket.

All vehicles

10. Remove the 6 PTU-to-engine bracket bolts and the bracket.

11. Disconnect the PTU vent tube and position it aside.

12. Remove the 4 PTU-to-transaxle bolts.

13. Remove the PTU.
