Engine
WARNING: Do not smoke, carry lighted tobacco or have an open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel-related component. Highly flammable mixtures are always present and may be ignited. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury.
WARNING: Before working on or disconnecting any of the fuel tubes or fuel system components, relieve the fuel system pressure to prevent accidental spraying of fuel. Fuel in the fuel system remains under high pressure, even when the engine is not running. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury.
1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to Vehicle Jacking and Lifting.
2. Disconnect the windshield washer hose.
3. NOTE: Index-mark the hood hinge location to aid in hood installation.
Remove the 4 bolts and the hood.
4. NOTICE: If the engine is repaired or replaced because of upper engine failure, typically including valve or piston damage, check the intake manifold for metal debris. If metal debris is found, install a new intake manifold. Failure to follow these instructions can result in engine damage.
Remove the intake manifold. For additional information, refer to Intake Manifold Service and Repair.
5. Open the cover, remove the 2 nuts and disconnect the wiring harness terminals.
6. Remove the cooling fan. For additional information, refer to Cooling System &/or Engine Block Heater.
7. Drain the cooling system. For additional information, refer to Cooling System &/or Engine Block Heater.
8. Rotate the accessory drive belt tensioner clockwise and remove the accessory drive belt.
9. Disconnect the electrical connector.
10. Detach the wiring harness retainer from the cooling fan wiring harness bracket.
11. Loosen the 2 nuts.
12. Remove the 2 bolts and the alternator, the alternator bracket and the wiring harness as an assembly.
13. Disconnect the heater hose.
14. Remove the upper radiator hose.
15. Remove the 2 bolts, the coolant crossover manifold and the 2 gaskets.
- Discard the gaskets.
16. Disconnect the Evaporative Emission (EVAP) canister purge valve electrical connector.
17. Detach the heater hose retainer from the RH valve cover.
18. Disconnect the in-line electrical connector and the 2 PCM electrical connectors, and detach the wiring harness pin-type retainer.
19. Disconnect the heater hose.
20. Remove the nut and disconnect the ground wire.
21. Remove the transmission. For additional information, refer to Automatic Transmission/Transaxle &/or Transmission Control Systems.
22. Remove the 3 screws, the 3 pushpins and the inner fender splash shield.
23. Remove the nut and detach the Power Steering Pressure (PSP) hose bracket.
24. Remove the nut and detach the wiring harness bracket.
25. Remove the 2 nuts and detach the wiring harness bracket.
26. Detach the wiring harness retainer from the power steering pump stud bolt.
27. Remove the 3 stud bolts and position the power steering pump aside.
28. Disconnect the lower radiator hose from the oil filter adapter.
29. Disconnect the A/C clutch electrical connector and detach the wiring harness retainer. Remove the nut and detach the A/C hose bracket.
30. Remove the 2 nuts, the stud bolt and position the A/C compressor aside.
31. Remove the oil drain plug and drain the engine oil. Install the drain plug when finished.
- Tighten to 23 Nm (17 lb-ft).
32. Remove the bolt and detach the wiring harness bracket from the RH engine support insulator bracket.
33. Remove the 5 pushpins and the RH splash shield.
34. Remove the 2 RH engine support insulator nuts.
35. If equipped, disconnect the block heater electrical connector and detach the wiring harness retainers.
36. Remove the LH engine support insulator through bolt.
37. Install the Modular Engine Lift Bracket.
38. Attach a suitable floor crane to the Modular Engine Lift Bracket and remove the engine from the vehicle.
