Pinpoint Test AL: DTC U0102

Normal Operation
- DTC U0102 (Lost Communication With Transfer Case Control Module [4X4CM]) - sets in the Instrument Cluster (IC) if the data messages received from the 4X4 control module over the High Speed Controller Area Network (HS-CAN) are missing for 5 seconds or longer.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- 4X4 control module
- IC



PINPOINT TEST AL: DTC U0102

AL1 VERIFY CUSTOMER CONCERN


- Ignition ON.
- Verify that there is an observable symptom present.
- Is an observable symptom present?

Yes
GO to AL2.

No
The system is operating normally at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or an intermittent fault condition.

AL2 CHECK THE COMMUNICATION NETWORK


- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Network Test.
- Carry out the network test.
- Does the 4X4 control module pass the network test?

Yes
GO to AL3.

No
REFER to Information Bus.

AL3 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE SELF-TEST


- Check for recorded IC DTCs from the self-test.
- Is DTC B1317 or DTC B1318 recorded?

Yes
GO to Pinpoint Test AH (DTC B1317) or GO to Pinpoint Test AI (DTC B1318). Pinpoint Tests AH: DTC B1317 Pinpoint Tests AI: DTC B1318

No
GO to AL4.

AL4 RECHECK THE IC DTCs


NOTE: If new modules were installed prior to the DTC being set, the module configuration may be incorrectly set during Programmable Module Installation (PMI) or the PMI may not have been carried out.

- Clear the DTCs. Repeat the IC self-test.
- Is DTC U0102 still present?

Yes
GO to AL5.

No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic.

AL5 CHECK FOR DTC U0102 SET IN OTHER MODULES


- Clear all DTCs.
- Ignition OFF.
- Ignition ON.
- Wait 10 seconds.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Self-Test.
- Retrieve the continuous memory DTCs from all modules.
- Is DTC U0102 set in the PCM?

Yes
INSTALL a new 4X4 control module. REFER to Transfer Case. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.

No
INSTALL a new IC. REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) Instrument Cluster (IC). TEST the system for normal operation.
