PINPOINT TEST B: TFT SENSOR

NOTE: Refer to the Transmission Vehicle Harness Connector illustration within the Transmission Connector Layouts Transmission Connector Layouts procedure.

NOTE: Refer to the Transmission Internal Harness Connector illustration within the Transmission Connector Layouts Transmission Connector Layouts procedure.

NOTE: Read and record all DTCs.

-------------------------------------------------
B1 ELECTRONIC DIAGNOSTICS

- Select PARK.
- Ignition OFF.
- Check to make sure the transmission harness connector is fully seated, terminals are fully engaged in connector and in good condition before proceeding.
- Connect the scan tool.
- Ignition ON.
- Access the transmission PIDs.
- Is the scan tool able to access the transmission PIDs?

Yes
GO to B2.

No
REPEAT procedure to access the transmission PIDs. If the scan tool did not access the transmission PIDs, REFER to Computers and Control Systems Information for diagnosis of PCM.

-------------------------------------------------
B2 WARM-UP/COOL-DOWN CYCLE

- While monitoring the Transmission Fluid Temperature (TFT) PID, carry out the following test: If transmission is cold, run transmission to warm it up. If transmission is warm, allow transmission to cool down.
- Does the TFT PID increase as the transmission is warmed up or decrease as the transmission is cooled or does the TFT or TFTV drop in and out of range?

Yes
If the TFT PID increases as the transmission is warmed or decreases as the transmission is cooled, CLEAR the DTCs. ROAD TEST to verify if concern is still present. If concern is still present, REFER to the Diagnosis by Symptom Index in Diagnosis By Symptom Diagnosis By Symptom to diagnose transmission overheating.

If the Transmission Fluid Temperature (TFT) sensor temperature or TFT sensor voltage drop in and out of range,
INSPECT for intermittent concern in the internal/external harness, sensor or connector.

No
GO to B3.

-------------------------------------------------
B3 CHECK CIRCUIT CET06 (GN/BN)

- Disconnect: 5R44E Transmission Vehicle Harness C168.
- Disconnect: 5R55E Transmission Vehicle Harness C199.
- Ignition ON.
- For vehicles equipped with a 5R44E transmission, measure the voltage between C168-4, circuit CET06 (GN/BN), harness side and ground.

- For vehicles equipped with a 5R55E transmission, measure the voltage between C199-4, circuit CET06 (GN/BN), harness side and ground.

- Is the voltage between 4.5 and 5.5?

Yes
GO to B4.

No
CHECK for open or short circuit in vehicle harness, internal harness or a PCM concern.

-------------------------------------------------
B4 CHECK RESISTANCE OF TFT SENSOR

- Disconnect: 5R44E Transmission Vehicle Harness C168.
- Disconnect: 5R55E Transmission Vehicle Harness C199.
- For the 5R44E transmission, measure the resistance of the TFT sensor between C168-4 and C168-8 at the transmission vehicle harness connector component side.

- For the 5R55E transmission, measure the resistance of the TFT sensor between C199-4 and C199-8 at the transmission vehicle harness connector component side.

- Record the resistance.
- Resistance should be approximately in the following ranges:

Transmission Fluid Temperature

- Is the resistance within range?

Yes
REFER to the Diagnosis by Symptom Index in Diagnosis By Symptom Diagnosis By Symptom for an overheating concern.

No
INSTALL a new internal harness (sensor is part of harness).
