Pinpoint Test AB: The Overdrive (O/D) Off Indicator Is Never/Always On
Normal Operation
The Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) receives the O/D off status from the Transmission Control Module (TCM) (part of the PCM) over the High Speed Controller Area Network (HS-CAN) communication bus. When the O/D function is selected off, the TCM sends a message to the IPC to illuminate the O/D off indicator.
If the O/D off message is missing for less than 5 seconds, the O/D off indicator remains in the last on/off state, based upon the last known good O/D off message received.
If the O/D off message is missing for more than 5 seconds, DTC U0101:00 sets in continuous memory and defaults the O/D off indicator off.
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Transmission concern
- PCM
- IPC
PINPOINT TEST AB: THE O/D OFF INDICATOR IS NEVER/ALWAYS ON

AB1 CHECK THE OPERATION OF THE O/D OFF FUNCTION
- Verify that the O/D function operates correctly.
- Does the O/D function correctly?
Yes
GO to AB2.
No
REFER to Automatic Transaxle/Transmission - 4R70E/4R75E 4R70E/4R75E or Automatic Transaxle/Transmission - TorqShift(R) TorqShift(R).

AB2 CHECK THE O/D OFF INDICATOR USING THE IPC DEALER TEST MODE
- Ignition ON.
- Enter Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Dealer Test Mode.
- Scroll down to the tELtAL tESt (base IPC) or TELLTALE TEST (message center IPC) displays.
- Monitor the O/D OFF indicator.
- Is the O/D OFF indicator illuminated?
Yes
GO to AB3.
No
INSTALL a new IPC. REFER to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). TEST the system for normal operation.

AB3 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE IPC SELF-TEST
- Check for recorded DTCs from the IPC self-test.
- Is DTC U0101:00 recorded?
Yes
GO to Pinpoint Test AV. Pinpoint Tests AV: DTC U0101:00
No
GO to AB4.

AB4 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE TCM SELF-TEST
- Check for recorded TCM DTCs from the self-test.
- Are any DTCs recorded?
Yes
REFER to the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Chart in Multifunction Electronic Modules Testing and Inspection.
No
INSTALL a new PCM. REFER to Electronic Engine Controls Service and Repair. TEST the system for normal operation.
