Pinpoint Test AH: The Stability/Traction Control Message Center Indicator Is Never/Always On
Normal Operation
The Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) receives the stability/traction control status message from the ABS module (Roll Stability Control (RSC(R))) or the PCM (traction control) through the High Speed Controller Area Network (HS-CAN) communication bus. When the vehicle traction control or stability control system is in active mode or is being controlled by the ABS module (RSC(R)) or the PCM (traction control), the IPC flashes the stability/traction control message center indicator. When the ABS module (RSC(R)) or the PCM (traction control) detects a concern, the IPC turns on the stability/traction control message center indicator.
If the stability/traction control status message is missing for less than 5 seconds, the IPC defaults the stability/traction control message center indicator to the last on/off state, based upon the last known good stability/traction control status message received.
If the stability/traction control status message is missing for more than 5 seconds, the IPC sets DTC U0100:00 (traction control) or U0121:00 (RSC(R)) in continuous memory and defaults the stability/traction control message center indicator on.
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Traction control/stability assist concern
- IPC
PINPOINT TEST AH: THE STABILITY/TRACTION CONTROL MESSAGE CENTER INDICATOR IS NEVER/ALWAYS ON

AH1 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE IPC SELF-TEST
- Check for recorded DTCs from the IPC self-test.
- Are any DTCs recorded?
Yes
For DTC U0100:00, GO to Pinpoint Test AU. Pinpoint Tests AU: DTC U0100:00
For DTC U0121:00, GO to Pinpoint Test AW. Pinpoint Tests AW: DTC U0121:00
For all other DTCs, REFER to DTC Charts.
No
If equipped with traction control, GO to AH2.
If equipped with RSC(R), GO to AH3.

AH2 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE PCM KOEO SELF-TEST
- Check for recorded DTCs from the PCM Key ON Engine OFF (KOEO) self-test.
- Are any DTCs recorded?
Yes
REFER to Computers and Control Systems.
No
GO to AH4.

AH3 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE ABS MODULE SELF-TEST
- Check for recorded DTCs from the ABS module self-test.
- Are any DTCs recorded?
Yes
REFER to Vehicle Dynamic Systems Testing and Inspection.
No
GO to AH4.

AH4 VERIFY THE OPERATION OF THE POWERTRAIN MALFUNCTION (WRENCH) AND ENGINE OVER-TEMPERATURE MESSAGE CENTER INDICATORS
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: PCM C175b (4.6L and 5.4L) or C1551 (6.8L).
- Ignition ON.
- NOTE: If multiple warnings are present, the message center indicators rotate through each of the warnings. Allow the displays to rotate through each display while determining whether the powertrain malfunction (wrench) and over-temperature message center indicators are active.
- Observe the message center or integrated display area of the IPC with the PCM connected and disconnected.
- Does the powertrain malfunction (wrench) message center warning indicator remain off when the PCM is connected and become active with the PCM disconnected?
Yes
The system is operating normally at this time. If the stability/traction control system encountered system concerns, the ABS module sets DTCs and sends a command to the IPC to illuminate the stability/traction control message center indicator.
No
INSTALL a new IPC. REFER to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). TEST the system for normal operation.
