Pinpoint Test AJ: The STOP SAFELY NOW Warning Is Inoperative/Always On (Hybrid)

Normal Operation

The stop safely now display informs the driver that there is a problem with the hybrid electrical system and that an impending vehicle shut down is about to occur. The Instrument Cluster (IC) receives the hazard input from a message over the High Speed Controller Area Network (HS-CAN) communication bus from the PCM, the Transmission Control Module (TCM) and the Battery Control Module - High Voltage Traction Battery (BCM-HVTB).

NOTE: The IC (Instrument Cluster) turns on both the hazard warning indicator in the IC (Instrument Cluster) and displays the stop safely now warning simultaneously when a problem or fault has been detected in any of the 3 modules (PCM, TCM (Transmission Control Module) or BCM-HVTB (Battery Control Module - High Voltage Traction Battery)).

If the hazard status message is missing from the PCM or if the data is deemed invalid by the IC (Instrument Cluster) for more than 5 seconds, the IC (Instrument Cluster) sets DTC U0100 in continuous memory. If the hazard status message is missing from the TCM (Transmission Control Module) or if the data is deemed invalid by the IC (Instrument Cluster) for more than 5 seconds, the IC (Instrument Cluster) sets DTC U0101 in continuous memory. If the hazard status message is missing from the BCM-HVTB (Battery Control Module - High Voltage Traction Battery) or if the data is deemed invalid by the IC (Instrument Cluster) for more than 5 seconds, the IC (Instrument Cluster) sets DTC U0111 in continuous memory.

If any one of the 3 messages are missing with the other two valid, the IC (Instrument Cluster) defaults the STOP SAFELY NOW warning to the last observable state (on or off). If all 3 messages are missing and the IC (Instrument Cluster) does not see an ignition switch transition into RUN/START, the IC (Instrument Cluster) defaults the STOP SAFELY NOW warning to the last observable state (on or off).

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- PCM

- TCM (Transmission Control Module) concern

- BCM-HVTB (Battery Control Module - High Voltage Traction Battery) concern

- IC (Instrument Cluster)

PINPOINT TEST AJ : THE STOP SAFELY NOW WARNING IS INOPERATIVE/ALWAYS ON (HYBRID)

AJ1 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE PCM KOEO (Key ON Engine OFF) SELF-TEST

- Check for recorded PCM DTCs from the Key ON Engine OFF (KOEO) self-test.

Are any PCM DTCs recorded?

Yes
REFER to Computers and Control Systems Information.

No
GO to AJ2.

AJ2 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE TCM (Transmission Control Module) SELF-TEST

- Check for recorded TCM (Transmission Control Module) DTCs from the self-test.

Are any TCM (Transmission Control Module) DTCs recorded?

Yes
REFER to Computers and Control Systems Information.

No
GO to AJ3.

AJ3 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE BCM-HVTB (Battery Control Module - High Voltage Traction Battery) SELF-TEST

- Check for recorded BCM-HVTB (Battery Control Module - High Voltage Traction Battery) DTCs from the self-test.

Are any BCM-HVTB (Battery Control Module - High Voltage Traction Battery) DTCs recorded?

Yes
REFER to Body Control Systems.

No
GO to AJ4.

AJ4 CONFIRM THE STOP SAFELY NOW WARNING OPERATION

- Ignition ON.

- Observe the STOP SAFELY NOW warning operation.

Is the STOP SAFELY NOW warning always displayed?

Yes
GO to AJ5.

No
GO to AJ6.

AJ5 VERIFY THE OPERATION OF THE HAZARD WARNING INDICATOR

NOTE: Both the hazard warning indicator and the STOP SAFELY NOW warning are displayed when a fault condition is detected.

- Observe the hazard warning indicator operation.

Is the hazard warning indicator illuminated?

Yes
GO to Pinpoint Test AE Pinpoint Test AE: The Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) Warning Indicator Is Never/Always On.

No
INSTALL a new IC (Instrument Cluster). REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) . TEST the system for normal operation.

AJ6 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE IC (Instrument Cluster) SELF-TEST

- Check for recorded IC (Instrument Cluster) DTCs from the self-test.

Are any IC (Instrument Cluster) DTCs recorded?

Yes
REFER to DTC Charts Instrumentation, Message Center and Warning Chimes.

No
INSTALL a new IC (Instrument Cluster). REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) . TEST the system for normal operation.
