Pinpoint Test BD: DTC U0151

Normal Operation

- DTC U0151 (Lost Communication With Restraints Control Module)- sets in continuous memory in the Instrument Cluster (IC) if data messages received from the Restraints Control Module (RCM) over the High Speed Controller Area Network (HS-CAN) are missing. For a complete list of all network messages, refer to Information Bus.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- RCM (Restraints Control Module)

- IC (Instrument Cluster)

PINPOINT TEST BD : DTC U0151

BD1 VERIFY THE CUSTOMER CONCERN

- Ignition ON.

- Verify that there is an observable symptom present.

Is an observable symptom present?

Yes
GO to BD2.

No
The system is operating normally at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or an intermittent fault condition.

BD2 CHECK THE COMMUNICATION NETWORK

- Ignition ON.

- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Network Test.

- Carry out the network test.

Does the RCM (Restraints Control Module) pass the network test?

Yes
GO to BD3.

No
REFER to Information Bus.

BD3 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE IC (Instrument Cluster) SELF-TEST

- Check for recorded IC (Instrument Cluster) DTCs from the self-test.

Is DTC B1317 or DTC B1318 recorded?

Yes
GO to Pinpoint Test AS Pinpoint Test AS: DTC B1317 (B1317) or GO to Pinpoint Test AT Pinpoint Test AT: DTC B1318 (B1318).

No
GO to BD4.

BD4 RECHECK THE IC (Instrument Cluster) DTCs

- Clear the DTCs. Repeat the IC (Instrument Cluster) self-test.

Is DTC U0151 still present?

Yes
GO to BD5.

No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic.

BD5 CHECK FOR DTC U0151 SET IN OTHER MODULES

- Clear all DTCs.

- Ignition OFF.

- Ignition ON.

- Wait 10 seconds.

- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Self-Test.

- Retrieve the continuous memory DTCs from all modules.

Is DTC U0151 set in the Occupant Classification System Module (OCSM)?

Yes
INSTALL a new RCM (Restraints Control Module). CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.

No
INSTALL a new IC (Instrument Cluster). REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) . TEST the system for normal operation.
