Pinpoint Test G: The Odometer Is Inoperative
Normal Operation
The Instrument Cluster (IC) receives the odometer rolling count data from the PCM (non-hybrid) or from the Transmission Control Module (TCM) (hybrid) over the High Speed Controller Area Network (HS-CAN) communication bus. The IC (Instrument Cluster) monitors the odometer rolling count input from the PCM or TCM (Transmission Control Module) and commands the odometer with a display in the integrated display area (base cluster) or the message center display (message center cluster).
If the IC (Instrument Cluster) does not receive the odometer rolling count data from the PCM/TCM (Transmission Control Module) for more than 5 seconds, the IC (Instrument Cluster) sets DTC U0100 (non-hybrid) or U0101 (hybrid) in continuous memory and defaults the odometer display to all dashes (-----).
If the IC (Instrument Cluster) receives invalid data for more than 5 seconds, the IC (Instrument Cluster) sets DTC U2200 and defaults the odometer display to all dashes (-----).
NOTE: If DTC U0100 is set in the IC (Instrument Cluster), other observable symptoms may be an inoperative speedometer, tachometer or temperature gauge (non-hybrid).
- DTC B2143 (NVM (Non-Volatile Memory) Memory Failure)- a continuous and on-demand DTC that sets if the IC (Instrument Cluster) Non-Volatile Memory (NVM) is corrupted. If the IC (Instrument Cluster) determines the NVM (Non-Volatile Memory) to be corrupt, the IC (Instrument Cluster) sets DTC B2143 and displays ERROR in the Vacuum Fluorescent (VF) display (base cluster) area or message center (message center cluster).
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- PCM (non-hybrid)
- TCM (Transmission Control Module) (hybrid)
- IC (Instrument Cluster)
PINPOINT TEST G : THE ODOMETER IS INOPERATIVE
G1 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE IC (Instrument Cluster) SELF-TEST
- Check for recorded IC (Instrument Cluster) DTCs from the self-test.
Are any DTCs recorded?
Yes
For DTC U0100, GO to Pinpoint Test AV Pinpoint Test AV: DTC U0100.
For DTC U0101, GO to Pinpoint Test AW Pinpoint Test AW: DTC U0101.
For DTC B2143, INSTALL a new IC (Instrument Cluster). REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) . TEST the system for normal operation.
For all other DTCs, REFER to DTC Charts Instrumentation, Message Center and Warning Chimes.
No
GO to G2.
G2 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE PCM AND TCM (Transmission Control Module) KOEO (Key ON Engine OFF) SELF-TEST
- Check for recorded PCM and TCM (Transmission Control Module) DTCs from the Key ON Engine OFF (KOEO) self-test.
Are any PCM or TCM (Transmission Control Module) DTCs recorded?
Yes
REFER to Computers and Control Systems Information.
No
INSTALL a new IC (Instrument Cluster). REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) . TEST the system for normal operation.
