Pinpoint Test BB: DTC U0131
Normal Operation
- DTC U0131 (Lost Communication With Power Steering Control Module)- sets in continuous memory in the Instrument Cluster (IC) if data messages received from the Power Steering Control Module (PSCM) (part of the steering column) over the High Speed Controller Area Network (HS-CAN) are missing. For a complete list of all network messages, refer to Information Bus.
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- PSCM (Power Steering Control Module) (part of the steering column)
- IC (Instrument Cluster)
PINPOINT TEST BB : DTC U0131
BB1 VERIFY THE CUSTOMER CONCERN
- Ignition ON.
- Verify that there is an observable symptom present.
Is an observable symptom present?
Yes
GO to BB2.
No
The system is operating normally at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or an intermittent fault condition.
BB2 CHECK THE COMMUNICATION NETWORK
- Ignition ON.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Network Test.
- Carry out the network test.
Does the PSCM (Power Steering Control Module) pass the network test?
Yes
GO to BB3.
No
REFER to Information Bus.
BB3 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE IC (Instrument Cluster) SELF-TEST
- Check for recorded IC (Instrument Cluster) DTCs from the self-test.
Is DTC B1317 or DTC B1318 recorded?
Yes
GO to Pinpoint Test AS Pinpoint Test AS: DTC B1317 (B1317) or GO to Pinpoint Test AT Pinpoint Test AT: DTC B1318 (B1318).
No
GO to BB4.
BB4 RECHECK THE IC (Instrument Cluster) DTCs
- Clear the DTCs. Repeat the IC (Instrument Cluster) self-test.
Is DTC U0131 still present?
Yes
INSTALL a new steering column. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the IC (Instrument Cluster) self-test.
If DTC U0131 is still present, INSTALL a new IC (Instrument Cluster). REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) . TEST the system for normal operation.
No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic.
