Pinpoint Test AW: DTC U0131:00
Normal Operation
- DTC U0131:00 (Lost Communication With Power Steering Control Module: No Sub-Type Information)- sets in the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) if data messages received from the Power Steering Control Module (PSCM) over the High Speed Controller Area Network (HS-CAN) are missing for greater than 5 seconds. For a complete list of all network messages, refer to Information Bus.
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- PSCM (Power Steering Control Module)
- IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster)
PINPOINT TEST AW : DTC U0131:00
AW1 VERIFY THE CUSTOMER CONCERN
- Ignition ON.
- Verify that there is an observable symptom present.
Is an observable symptom present?
Yes
GO to AW2.
No
The system is operating normally at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or an intermittent fault condition.
AW2 CHECK THE COMMUNICATION NETWORK
- Ignition ON.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Network Test.
- Carry out the network test.
Does the PSCM (Power Steering Control Module) pass the network test?
Yes
GO to AW3.
No
REFER to Information Bus.
AW3 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE PSCM (Power Steering Control Module) MODULE SELF-TEST
- Check for recorded DTCs from the PSCM (Power Steering Control Module) module self-test.
Is DTC U3003:16 or DTC U3003:17 recorded?
Yes
REFER to Steering System - Electronic Power Assist Steering (EPAS or Steering System - Hydraulic Power Assist Steering (HPAS).
No
GO to AW4.
AW4 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) SELF-TEST
- Check for recorded DTCs from the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) self-test.
Is DTC U3003:16 or DTC U3003:17 recorded?
Yes
For DTC U3003:16, GO to Pinpoint Test BD. Pinpoint Test BD: DTC U3003:16
For DTC U3003:17, GO to Pinpoint Test BE. Pinpoint Test BE: DTC U3003:17
No
GO to AW5.
AW5 RECHECK THE IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) DTCs
NOTE: If new modules were installed prior to the DTC being set, the module configuration may be incorrectly set during the Programmable Module Installation (PMI) or the PMI (Programmable Module Installation) may not have been carried out.
- Clear the DTCs. Repeat the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) self-test.
Is DTC U0131:00 still present?
Yes
GO to AW6.
No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or an intermittent fault condition.
AW6 CHECK FOR DTC U0131:00 SET IN OTHER MODULES
- Clear all DTCs.
- Ignition OFF.
- Ignition ON.
- Wait 10 seconds.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Self-Test.
- Retrieve the continuous memory DTCs from all modules.
Is DTC U0131:00 set in the ABS module?
Yes
INSTALL a new PSCM (Power Steering Control Module) (part of the steering gear). CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
No
INSTALL a new IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster). REFER to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) . TEST the system for normal operation.
