Removal and Installation

WARNING: Do not smoke, carry lighted tobacco or have an open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel-related component. Highly flammable mixtures are always present and may be ignited. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury.

WARNING: When handling fuel, always observe fuel handling precautions and be prepared in the event of fuel spillage. Spilled fuel may be ignited by hot vehicle components or other ignition sources. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury.

1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.

2. Remove the fuel tank. For additional information, refer to Fuel Tank Removal and Replacement.

3. Using soapy water, clean a minimum of 76 mm (3 in) surface area around the Fuel Pump (FP) module.

4. If equipped, remove the 4 fuel pump module cover nuts and remove the fuel pump module cover.
- To install, tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb-in).






5. Disconnect the fuel supply tube and Fuel Tank Pressure (FTP) sensor and vapor tube assembly quick connect couplings at the FP (Fuel Pump) module.

6. Using the Fuel Tank Sending Unit Wrench, remove the FP (Fuel Pump) module locking ring.





7. NOTICE: The Fuel Pump (FP) module must be handled carefully to avoid damage to the float arm and the filter.
NOTE: If the FP (Fuel Pump) does not clear the FP (Fuel Pump) mounting flange on the fuel tank, the use of a screwdriver may be necessary.
Remove the FP (Fuel Pump) module.
- If necessary, insert a screwdriver into the empty FP (Fuel Pump) rod hole and slightly pull the screwdriver inboard until the base of the FP (Fuel Pump) clears the FP (Fuel Pump) mounting flange.






8. Remove and discard the FP (Fuel Pump) module O-ring seal.

9. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
- Install a new FP (Fuel Pump) module O-ring seal and lubricate with clean engine oil.
