Engine Shutdown Feature
* All medium duty trucks that are equipped with the gasoline engine have one of the following engine shut down features:
- The standard engine shut down feature (RPO UER)
- The optional engine shut down feature (RPO KPJ)
* Both features monitor the following conditions:
- The engine coolant level
- The engine oil pressure
- The engine coolant temperature
* The standard shutdown feature (RPO UER) will alert the driver when any of the conditions have reached or exceeded an unacceptable operating range. The driver is alerted the following ways:
- The CHECK GAUGES lamp will illuminate and an audible alarm will beep at the rate of 120 beeps per minute as long as a low engine oil pressure or a high engine coolant temperature condition is detected.
- The LOW COOLANT lamp will illuminate and an audible alarm will beep at the rate of 300 beeps per minute when a low engine coolant level condition is detected for a period of time.
* The CHECK GAUGES lamp, LOW COOLANT lamp and audible alarm will continue until the operating conditions are returned to an acceptable range.
The optional engine shut down feature (RPO KPJ) will alert the driver in the following ways:
- When a low engine oil pressure and/or high engine coolant temperature condition is detected the CHECK GAUGES lamp will illuminate and an audible alarm will beep at the rate of 120 beeps per minute.
- If the conditions to activate the alarm continue or the LOW COOLANT lamp is illuminated for an excessive amount of time, the audible alarm will increase to a rate of 300 beeps per minute.
- The audible alarm will beep at the rate of 300 beeps per minute for a period of 25 seconds. After 25 seconds the PCM will perform the following functions:
* Store data related to the condition.
* Turn the fuel injectors OFF, causing the engine to shutdown.
* The driver can restart the engine and the engine will be allowed to run a period of time even if the conditions still exist. If the conditions still exist after an engine restart the engine will run a period of time then again shutdown.
* Engine restart is possible as long as the engine is able to operate.
