Important: The engine front cover must be installed and the fasteners tightened while the sealant is still wet to the touch.

3. Apply sealant GM P/N 12346286, Canada P/N 10953472, or equivalent 2.0 mm (0.080 in) in two places (1) on the engine block where the front cover meets the oil pan.

6. Install the engine front cover bolts.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.

7. Tighten the engine front cover bolts.

1. Tighten the engine front cover bolts in sequence a first pass to 6 Nm (54 lb in).

10. Install the CMP sensor.
Notice: This bolt is a self-tapping bolt. If installing this bolt into a new component, installation of the bolt may be difficult. Ensure that the bolt is not over-torqued during the initial installation (thread cutting). Failure to limit torque can lead to bolt failure.

11. Install the CMP sensor bolt.

Tighten the CMP sensor bolt to 12 Nm (106 lb in).

12. Install the crankshaft balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Replacement Service and Repair.
13. Install the water pump. Refer to Water Pump Replacement (L18) Service and Repair in Engine Cooling.
