Diagnostic Fault Information
Circuit/System Description
The driver door module (DDM) and the passenger door module (PDM) receive a discreet input from the driver door ajar switch and the passenger door ajar switch respectively. Likewise, the body control module (BCM) receives a discrete input from both the left and right rear door ajar switches. The door ajar switches are normally open when the doors are fully closed. When a door is open, the door ajar switch contacts close providing a path to ground. The driver information center (DIC) displays the appropriate door open message when one of the doors is open. The instrument panel cluster (IPC) receives a serial data message from either the BCM, DDM or PDM indicating the door ajar status.
Circuit/System Verification
1. Ignition ON, all doors closed, observe the scan tool Driver Door Ajar Sw parameter and Passenger Door Ajar Sw parameter while opening and closing the driver door and front passenger door. The reading should change between On and Off.
^ If the value does not change, refer to Front Door Ajar Switch Circuit Test.
2. Observe the scan tool Left Rear Door Ajar Switch parameter and Right Rear Door Ajar Switch parameter while opening and closing the rear doors. The reading should change between On and Off.
^ If the value does not change, refer to Rear Door Ajar Switch Circuit Test.
3. If the door ajar switch inputs to the DDS, PDS, and BCM function normally replace the IPC.
Circuit/System Testing
Front Door Ajar Switch Circuit Test
1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the X1 harness connector at the affected door latch.
2. Test for less than 5.0 ohms between the listed low reference circuit terminal and ground.
* Driver terminal D
* Passenger terminal A
^ If greater than the specified range, test the low reference circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal replace the affected door module.
3. Ignition ON, verify the scan tool door ajar switch parameter is Off.
^ If not the specified value, test the listed signal circuit terminal for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the affected door module.
* Driver terminal B
* Passenger terminal C
4. Install a 3A fused jumper wire between the listed signal circuit terminal and low reference circuit terminal. Verify the scan tool door ajar switch parameter is On.
* Driver terminal B to D
* Passenger terminal C to A
^ If not the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the affected door module.
5. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the affected door latch.
Rear Door Ajar Switch Circuit Test
1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the X1 harness connector at the affected door latch.
2. Test for less than 1 ohm between the listed ground circuit terminal and ground.
* Left terminal D
* Right terminal A
^ If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
3. Ignition ON, verify the scan tool door ajar switch parameter is Off.
^ If not the specified value, test the listed signal circuit terminal for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM.
* Left terminal B
* Right terminal C
4. Install a 3A fused jumper wire between the listed signal circuit terminal and ground circuit terminal. Verify the scan tool door ajar switch parameter is On.
* Left terminal B to D
* Right terminal C to A
^ If not the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM.
5. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the affected door latch.
