Intake Manifold Replacement
Removal Procedure
1. Disconnect the evaporative emission canister purge tube at the intake manifold side only. Refer to Evaporative Emission Canister Purge Tube Replacement (Evaporative Emission Canister Purge Tube Replacement).
2. Remove the manifold absolute pressure sensor. Refer to Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor Replacement (Service and Repair).
3. Remove the fuel pump. Refer to Fuel Pump Replacement (Fuel Pump Replacement).
4. Remove the throttle body. Refer to Throttle Body Assembly Replacement (Removal and Replacement).
5. Reposition the brake booster vacuum hose clamp at the intake manifold. Refer to Power Brake Booster Vacuum Check Valve and Hose Replacement (2.4L) (Service and Repair)Power Brake Booster Vacuum Check Valve and Hose Replacement (3.0L) (Service and Repair).
6. Remove the oil level indicator tube. Refer to Oil Level Indicator Tube Replacement (Service and Repair).
7. Remove the fuel rail harness connector bracket bolt (1) and intake manifold insulator bolt.
8. Remove the intake manifold insulator (2).
9. Discharging the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging (Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging).
10. Remove the A/C line nut (1) and line (2) from the compressor and reposition the line to the side.
11. Remove the intake manifold retaining nuts and bolts.
Note: The intake manifold gasket is reusable. Only replace the gasket if damage has occurred.
12. Remove the intake manifold (1).
13. Disconnect electrical connectors as necessary.
14. Transfer parts as necessary.
15. Cleaning and inspection intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Cleaning and Inspection (LAF) (40. Intake Manifold Cleaning and Inspection).
Installation Procedure
1. Install the intake manifold (1). Start and hand tighten the intake manifold bolts and nuts.
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).
2. Install the intake manifold bolts and nuts and tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb in).
3. Install the intake manifold insulator (2).
4. Install the insulator bolt and tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb in).
5. Install the fuel rail harness connector bracket (1) to the intake manifold. Tighten the bracket bolt to 10 Nm (89 lb in).
6. Install the oil level indicator tube. Refer to Oil Level Indicator Tube Replacement (Service and Repair).
7. Connect the brake booster vacuum hose clamp at the intake manifold. Refer to Power Brake Booster Vacuum Check Valve and Hose Replacement (2.4L) (Service and Repair)Power Brake Booster Vacuum Check Valve and Hose Replacement (3.0L) (Service and Repair).
8. Install the throttle body. Refer to Throttle Body Assembly Replacement (Removal and Replacement).
9. Install the fuel pump. Refer to Fuel Pump Replacement (Fuel Pump Replacement).
10. Install the manifold absolute pressure sensor. Refer to Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor Replacement (Service and Repair).
11. Connect the evaporative emission canister purge tube at the intake manifold side only. Refer to Evaporative Emission Canister Purge Tube Replacement (Evaporative Emission Canister Purge Tube Replacement).
12. Install new seal washers to the compressor hose. Refer to Air Conditioning System Seal Replacement (Air Conditioning System Seal Replacement).
13. Install the compressor hose (2) to the compressor.
14. Install the compressor hose nut (1) to the compressor and tighten the nut to 22 Nm (16 lb ft).
15. Connect the engine harness electrical connector as necessary.
16. Recharging the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging (Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging).
