Indirect Fuel Injector Replacement

CH-49736 - Hydrocarbon Injector Quick Connect Release Tool

For equivalent regional tools, refer to Special Tools (Diagnostic Tools Diesel) Tools and Equipment.

Removal Procedure

1. Remove the right side wheelhouse liner. Refer to Front Wheelhouse Liner Replacement - Right Side (GMC) Front Wheelhouse Liner Replacement - Right Side (Chevrolet) .




2. Remove the indirect fuel injector fasteners (1, 2).




3. Remove the indirect fuel injector retainer (1) from the fitting.
4. Remove the indirect fuel injector (2) using the CH-49736 - tool.
5. Remove the indirect injector fitting.

Installation Procedure




1. Install the indirect fuel injector retainer (1) to the fitting.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.

2. Install the indirect fuel injector (2) and tighten the fitting to 45 Nm (33 lb ft).




3. Install the indirect fuel injector fasteners (1, 2) to 25 Nm (18 lb ft).
4. Tighten the indirect fuel injector fitting to 45 Nm (33 lb ft).
5. Install the right side wheelhouse liner. Refer to Front Wheelhouse Liner Replacement - Right Side (GMC) Front Wheelhouse Liner Replacement - Right Side (Chevrolet) .

Note: The indirect fuel injector and its fuel lines must be purged of air any time it is removed or replaced. Failure to do so may damage the injector. Perform the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) Regeneration Enable any time the indirect injector or its fuel lines are removed or replaced. This will force a regeneration as soon as conditions allow and will purge any air from the system.

6. Perform the Diesel Particulate Filter Regeneration. Refer to Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) Regeneration Enable Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) Regeneration Enable.
