DTC 44

DTC 44: Vehicle Speed Signal Circuit Problem
1. Turn the ignition switch ON (II) and watch the MIL.
Does the MIL come on (for the first two seconds)?
YES- Go to step 2.
NO- Check the MIL circuit troubleshooting.
2. Reset the MCM.
3. Reset the ECM.
4. Start the engine.
5. Decelerate for five seconds in 2nd gear. Check for DTCs in the ECM.
Is DTC P0500 indicated?
YES- Do the troubleshooting procedure for P0500.
NO- Go to step 6.
6. Check the DTC.
Is DTC 44 indicated?
YES- Go to step 7.
NO- Intermittent failure, system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the vehicle speed sensor and at the MCM.
7. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
8. Turn the battery module switch OFF.
9. Remove the IPU lid.





10. Connect ECM connector terminal C5 and body ground with a jumper wire.





11. Check for continuity between body ground and MCM connector terminal C4.
Is there continuity?
YES- Substitute a known-good MCM and recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away, replace the original MCM.
NO- Repair open in the wire between the MCM (C4) and the ECM (C5).
