DTC P0336: CKP Sensor Circuit Intermittent Interruption

1. Reset the ECM.
2. Start the engine.

Is DTC P0335 and/or P0336 indicated?

YES - Go to step 3.

NO - Intermittent failure, system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose wires at the CKP sensor and at the ECM.

3. Turn the ignition switch OFF.

4. Disconnect the CKP sensor 2P connector, and measure resistance between the CKP sensor 3P connector terminals No.1 and No.2.

Is there 1,850 - 2,450 Ohms?

YES - Go to step 5.

NO - Replace the CKP sensor.

5. Check for continuity between the CKP sensor 3P connector terminal No.1 and body ground and terminal No.2 and body ground individually.

Is there continuity?

YES - Replace the CKP sensor.

NO - Go to step 6.

6. Reconnect the CKP sensor 2P connector.

7. Disconnect ECM connector C (31P), and measure resistance between the ECM connector terminals C8 and C9.

Is there 1,850 - 2,450 Ohms?

YES - Go to step 8.

NO - Repair open in the wire between the ECM (C8, C9) and the CKP sensor.

8. Check for continuity between ECM connector terminal C8 and body ground.

Is there continuity?

YES - Repair short in the wire between ECM terminal C8 and the CKP sensor.

NO - Update the ECM if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good ECM, then recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away with a known-good ECM, replace the original ECM.
