Shift Lever Knob

This article is updated by TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) 06-40-001 dated January 2006.

Description:
The shift knob lever removal procedure provided in the 2006 Azera Shop Manual is incorrect. In the shop manual, what appears to be a shift knob that is threaded onto the shift lever is actually held in place by a C-clip. Attempting to remove the shift knob by twisting the knob counter-clockwise to unthread it may result in damage to the shift knob. The correct removal procedure is provided in this bulletin.

Procedure:

1. Remove the shift knob's plastic trim by prying at the indicated point to release the two lock tabs.
Pull straight back to disengage the tabs.

2. Continue by pulling the plastic trim straight up and out of the ferrule.
Set the plastic trim aside.

3. Using a straight pick or a small flat blade screwdriver, release the C-clip.

4. Carefully remove the C-clip and set aside.

5. Pull the shift knob straight up off of the shift lever.
