Engine Control Module: Service and Repair

The Engine Control Module (ECM) is programmed from the factory and has no replaceable PROM.

CAUTION: To prevent internal ECM damage, the Ignition must be "OFF" when disconnecting or reconnecting power to ECM (for example; Battery cable, ECM pigtail, ECM fuse, jumper cables etc.)




Removal
1. Disable the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS).
2. Remove the ECM Cover Cap.
3. Remove the ECM Cover with 4-screws.
4. Disconnect the ECM Harness Connectors.
5. Remove the ECM unit with 3 bolts.

NOTE: To prevent possible Electronic Discharge damage to the ECM, Do not touch the Connector Pins or soldered components on the Circuit Board.

Installation
To install, follow the removal steps in the reverse order.

5. Install the ECM Unit and Fixing Bolts.
4. Connect the ECM Harness Connectors.
3. install the ECM Cover with 4-screws.
2. Install the ECM Cover Cap.
1. Enable the SRS.
