Cylinder Head - Installation
INSTALLATION
1. Clean all surfaces of cylinder block and cylinder heads.
2. Clean cylinder block front and rear gasket surfaces using a suitable solvent.
CAUTION: The cylinder head gaskets are not interchangeable between the left and right sides. They are marked with an "L" and "R" to indicate the left or right side and they are marked "TOP" to indicate which side goes up.
CAUTION: The head gaskets are marked "TOP" to indicate which side goes up.
3. Position new cylinder head gaskets (5) onto the cylinder block.
4. Position cylinder heads (4) onto head gaskets (5) and cylinder block.
5. Tighten cylinder head bolts 1 through 10 to 34 Nm (25 ft. lbs.) in the sequence shown.
6. Tighten cylinder head bolts 11 through 15 to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.) in the sequence shown.
7. Tighten cylinder head bolts 1 through 10 to 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.) in the sequence shown.
8. Tighten cylinder head bolts 11 through 15 to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.) again in the sequence shown.
9. Rotate cylinder head bolts 1 through 10 90° in the sequence shown.
10. Tighten cylinder head bolts 11 through 15 to 34 Nm (25 ft. lbs.) in the sequence shown.
11. Install push rods and rocker arm assemblies in their original position, using Pushrod Retainer 9070 (1). Valve Rocker Arm - Installation.
12. Install the intake manifold Intake Manifold - Installation.
13. Install the spark plugs.
14. Connect the heater hoses (2).
15. Connect the fuel supply line.
16. Install the power steering pump.
17. Install the drive beltSerpentine Accessory Drive Belt - Installation.
18. Install cylinder head covers (1)Cylinder Head Cover(s) - Installation.
19. Connect the evaporation control system.
20. Install the air cleaner.
21. Install cowl grille (4).
22. Fill cooling systemService and Repair.
23. Drain engine oil.
24. Fill engine with new oil.
25. Connect the negative cable to the battery.
26. Start engine check for leaks.
