Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Tube - Installation

INSTALLATION

CAUTION: Do Not use metal scrapers when cleaning the mounting surface of the EGR valve. Damage from scratching the surface may cause an improper seal.

CAUTION: Do not allow debris to enter the EGR valve when cleaning the mounting surface. Debris can lodge between the pintle and the seat causing valve leakage that results in rough idle and depressed manifold vacuum.

1. Clean the gasket mounting areas at both ends of the EGR tube.
2. Install a new gasket (5) to the EGR tube and a new silicone rubber seal to the intake manifold.

3. Install the EGR tube (4) and gasket (5) with two bolts (3) to the EGR valve (2). Tighten bolts to 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.).

CAUTION: DO NOT use air tools to install bolts to intake manifold. Install bolts using hand tools only. Torque all fasteners to specification. The use of air tools can cause the threads of the intake manifold to become stripped.

4. Install two bolts (2) at the intake manifold end of the tube. Tighten bolts to 12 Nm (106 in. lbs.).

5. Install the studbolt (2) to the retaining bracket on the EGR tube (1). Tighten studbolt to 18 Nm (13 ft. lbs.).

6. Install the purge and fuel tubes support bracket (1) with nut (2). Tighten nut to 18 Nm (13 ft. lbs.).
