Timing Cover
This is a "Trustmark Authoring Standards (TAS) Repair Procedure"
- TAS style procedures can be identified by steps that have no accompanying step text and the magenta color of the electrical connectors and fasteners such as nuts, bolts, clamps or clips.
- TAS removal and installation procedures use a sequence of color illustrations to indicate the order to be followed when removing/disassembling or installing/assembling a component.
- Many of the TAS procedures will have the installation information within the removal steps.
- The TAS color illustrations use a variety of symbols to indicate important details of the procedures. It is important to understand these symbols in order to properly used the TAS procedures.

Removal

WARNING: Make sure to support the vehicle with axle stands.
1 Raise and support the vehicle.
2 Remove the cover and disconnect the battery ground cable.

3 Drain the coolant.
For additional information, refer to Cooling System Draining, Filling and Bleeding Service and Repair
4 Remove the accessory drive pulley.
For additional information, refer to Accessory Drive Pulley Service and Repair





CAUTION: The O-ring seal is to be reused unless damaged.
5 Remove the brake vacuum pump.




6 Remove the power steering pump support bracket.




7 Release the power steering pump and tie aside




8 Remove the accessory drive belt idler pulley.





CAUTION: The O-ring seal is to be reused unless damaged.
9 Remove the coolant pump inlet pipe.





NOTE:
Note the different lengths of the bolts.

10 Remove the timing cover.

11 Remove and discard the gasket.





12 Remove and discard the seal.





CAUTION: Mark the components to aid installation.

NOTE:
Do not disassemble further if the component is removed for access only.

13 Remove the gasket and oil squirt jet.

Installation

CAUTION: Make sure that the component aligns with the installation mark.
1 Install the gasket and oil squirt jet.
Torque to: 6 Nm

CAUTION: Make sure that the component is correctly located on the locating dowels.
2 Install a new gasket.





CAUTION: Only tighten the bolts finger-tight at this stage.
3 Install the bolts as illustrated.





CAUTION: Make sure that the area around the component is clean and free of foreign material.
4 Align the timing cover.
Special Service Tool




Holder, Generator Pulley, 303-1228




5 Tighten the bolts in the sequence illustrated.
M8: 25 Nm
M7: 16 Nm
Install the seal to the special tool.
Special Service Tool




Installer, Auxiliary Drive Seal, 303-1227
Remove the seal guide.





CAUTION: Make sure that the mating faces are clean and free of corrosion and foreign material.
Install the special tool and seal assembly into the accessory drive shaft.
Install the seal.

CAUTION: A new O-ring seal is to be installed.

CAUTION: Take extra care not to damage the seal.

NOTE:
Lubricate the new O-ring seal with clean engine coolant.
6 Install the coolant pump inlet pipe.
Torque to: 10 Nm
7 Install the power steering pump and support bracket.
Torque to: 25 Nm

CAUTION: A new O-ring seal is to be installed.

CAUTION: Make sure that the component is clean, free of foreign material and lubricant.
8 Install the brake vacuum pump.
Torque to: 17 Nm
9 Install the accessory drive belt idler pulley.
Torque to: 25 Nm

10 Install the accessory drive pulley.

11 Fill and bleed the cooling system.

12 Connect the battery ground cable and install the cover.
