P0A94-587
L110F HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL: HYBRID CONTROL SYSTEM: P0A94-587: DC / DC Converter Performance
DTC P0A94-587 - DC / DC Converter Performance
DESCRIPTION
For a description of the boost converter, P0A94-442.
The MG ECU uses a voltage sensor (VL) that is built into the boost converter to detect the high voltage before it is boosted. The ECU also uses the battery smart unit to detect HV battery voltage (VB).
HINT: Using the intelligent tester or Techstream, check the data list of HV battery voltage and current. If these values are not within the below range, there is a battery smart unit malfunction.
MONITOR DESCRIPTION
The Hybrid vehicle control ECU monitors signals of HV battery voltage (VB) and boost converter voltage (VL) sensors. When a large difference occurs between the voltages from the VB and VL sensors, the Hybrid vehicle control ECU interprets this as a failure of either of the sensors. The Hybrid vehicle control ECU will illuminate the MIL and set a DTC.

1. CHECK DTC OUTPUT (HV)
(a) Connect the intelligent tester or Techstream to the DLC3.
(b) Turn the power switch on (IG).
(c) Select the following menu items:
(1) Intelligent tester - Select: DIAGNOSIS / OBD/MOBD / HV ECU / DTC INFO / CURRENT CODES.
(2) Techstream - Select: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Trouble Codes.
(d) Check if DTCs are output.
Result:
D -- GO TO DTC CHART (P0A1F-585)
C -- REPLACE INVERTER WITH CONVERTER ASSEMBLY
B -- GO TO DTC CHART (P0A1F-129)
A -- Continue to next step.
2. CLEAR DTC
(a) Select the following menu items:
(1) Intelligent tester - Select: DIAGNOSIS / OBD/MOBD / HV ECU / DTC INFO / CURRENT CODES.
(2) Techstream - Select: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Trouble Codes.
(b) Read and record the DTCs and freeze frame data.
(c) Select the following menu items:
(1) Intelligent tester - Select: DIAGNOSIS / OBD/MOBD / HV ECU / DTC INFO / CLEAR CODES.
(2) Techstream - Select: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Trouble Codes.
(d) Clear DTCs and freeze frame data.
NEXT -- Continue to next step.
3. CHECK DTC OUTPUT (HV)
(a) Turn the power switch on (READY). (*1)
(b) Move the shift lever to the N position. (*2)
(c) Turn the A/C switch to the MAX COOL position. (*3)
(d) Select the following menu items:
(1) Intelligent tester - Select: DIAGNOSIS / OBD/MOBD / HV ECU / DATA LIST / IB BATTERY. (*4)
(2) Techstream - Select: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Data List / Batt Pack Current Val. (*4)
(e) Confirm that "Batt Pack Current Val" is more than 3 A. (*5)
(f) Leave the vehicle in the condition specified in preceding steps (*3) and (*5) for 15 seconds. (*6)
(g) Select the following menu items:
(1) Intelligent tester - Select: DIAGNOSIS / OBD/MOBD / HV ECU / DTC INFO / CURRENT CODES. (*7)
(2) Techstream - Select: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Trouble Codes. (*7)
(h) Check if DTCs are output. (*8)
NOTE: If the low battery charge warning light comes on, move the shift lever to the P position and start the engine to charge the HV battery. After the engine stops, perform steps (*1) through (*8) again.
Result:
E -- REPLACE BATTERY SMART UNIT
D -- LEAVE VEHICLE IN P POSITION, AND CHARGE HV BATTERY IN IDLE STATUS UNTIL IDLING STOPS (PERFORM STEPS (*1) THROUGH (*8))
C -- REPLACE INVERTER WITH CONVERTER ASSEMBLY
B -- REPLACE BATTERY SMART UNIT
A -- Continue to next step.
4. CHECK DTC OUTPUT (HV)
(a) Perform a road test that repeats full acceleration to 37 mph (60 km/h) and then braking to a complete stop three times. (*9)
NOTE: Perform this test only in an appropriate safe location, in accordance with all local laws.
(b) Select the following menu items:
(1) Intelligent tester - Select: DIAGNOSIS / OBD/MOBD / HV ECU / DTC INFO / CURRENT CODES. (*10)
(2) Techstream - Select: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Trouble Codes. (*10)
(c) Check if DTCs are output. (*11)
Result:
E -- REPLACE BATTERY SMART UNIT
D -- LEAVE VEHICLE IN P POSITION, AND CHARGE HV BATTERY IN IDLE STATUS UNTIL IDLING STOPS (PERFORM STEPS (*9) THROUGH (*11))
C -- REPLACE INVERTER WITH CONVERTER ASSEMBLY
B -- REPLACE BATTERY SMART UNIT
A -- Continue to next step.
5. READ VALUE USING INTELLIGENT TESTER OR TECHSTREAM
