P3176
L110 HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL: HYBRID CONTROL SYSTEM: P3176-863: Transmission Oil Pump Motor Coil Temperature Sensor Circuit Low
DTC P3176-863 - Transmission Oil Pump Motor Coil Temperature Sensor Circuit Low
DESCRIPTION
The resistance of the temperature sensor (thermistor) installed in the oil pump motor changes in accordance with changes in the oil pump motor temperature. The lower the oil pump motor temperature, the more the temperature sensor (thermistor) resistance. Conversely, the more the temperature, the lower the resistance. The oil pump motor temperature sensor (thermistor) is connected to the hybrid vehicle control ECU. Power source voltage of 5 V is supplied to the oil pump motor temperature sensor (thermistor) through terminal TOPM of the hybrid vehicle control ECU. This means that resistor R in the ECU and the oil pump motor temperature sensor (thermistor) are connected in series. The potential at terminal TOPM and the resistance value change in accordance with changes in the oil pump motor temperature.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE
CAUTION:
- Before inspecting the high-voltage system or disconnecting the low voltage connector of the inverter with converter assembly, take safety precautions such as wearing insulated gloves and removing the service plug grip to prevent electrical shocks. After removing the service plug grip, put it in your pocket to prevent other technicians from accidentally reconnecting it while you are working on the high-voltage system.
- After disconnecting the service plug grip, wait for at least 10 minutes before touching any of the high-voltage connectors or terminals. After waiting, check the voltage at the inspection point in the inverter with converter assembly. The voltage should be 0 V before beginning work.
HINT: Waiting for at least 10 minutes is required to discharge the high-voltage capacitor inside the inverter with converter assembly.

PROCEDURE
1. CLEAR DTC
(a) Turn the power switch on (IG).
(b) Read and record the DTCs and freeze frame data.
(c) Select the following menu items: DIAGNOSIS / OBD/MOBD / HV ECU / DTC INFO / CLEAR CODES.
(d) Clear the DTCs.
NOTICE:
Make sure to record DTCs and freeze frame data before clearing DTCs.
NEXT -- Continue to next step.
2. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (OPM TEMPERATURE)
(a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
(b) Turn the power switch on (IG).
(c) Select the following menu items: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Data List / OPM Temperature.
(d) Read the data list.
Result:
HINT: It is possible for the hybrid vehicle control ECU to detect P3176-863 when the power switch is on (READY), after at least 15 minutes have elapsed with the engine not running and the shift lever in a position other than P or N. This code can be detected within a single trip (1 trip).
B -- CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS
A -- Continue to next step.
3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR
(a) Turn the power switch off.
(b) Disconnect connector E84 from the hybrid vehicle control ECU.
(c) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard resistance:
OK -- REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU
NG -- Continue to next step.
4. CHECK OIL WITH MOTOR PUMP ASSEMBLY (OIL PUMP MOTOR TEMPERATURE SENSOR)
(a) Turn the power switch off.
(b) Disconnect the oil pump motor temperature sensor connector.
(c) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard resistance:
NG -- REPLACE OIL WITH MOTOR PUMP ASSEMBLY
OK -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
