1UR-FSE ENGINE CONTROL SYSTEM: SFI SYSTEM: P0190: Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor Circuit

DTC P0190 - Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor Circuit

DTC P0192 - Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor Circuit Low Input

DTC P0193 - Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor Circuit High Input

DESCRIPTION

The fuel pressure sensor is installed on the delivery pipe. The sensor changes fuel pressure to an electrical signal and sends the signal to the ECM. Then the ECM controls the feedback of the pump discharge to maintain the fuel's target pressure between 4 and 13 MPa (40.8 to 132.6 kgf/cm2, 580 to 1885 psi). If the sensor output stops, the ECM will stop the fuel pump for high pressure and supply fuel using the low pressure side fuel pump.

HINT: After confirming DTC P0190, use the Techstream to confirm the fuel pressure in the delivery pipe by entering the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Data List / Fuel Press.

MONITOR DESCRIPTION

These DTCs are set if the fuel pressure sensor output voltage is out of the standard range. The DTCs indicate an open or short malfunction of the sensor circuit.
If these DTCs are set, the ECM enters fail-safe mode and limits the engine power. Fail-safe mode continues until the engine switch is turned off.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE
HINT: Read freeze frame data using the Techstream. The ECM records vehicle and driving condition information as freeze frame data the moment a DTC is stored. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can be helpful in determining whether the vehicle was running or stopped, whether the engine was warmed up or not, whether the air fuel ratio was lean or rich, as well as other data recorded at the time of a malfunction.

PROCEDURE

1. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (FUEL PRESSURE)
(a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
(b) Start the engine.
(c) Turn the Techstream ON.
(d) Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Data List / Fuel Press.
(e) Read the values.
Pressure:
4 to 13 MPa (40.8 to 132.6 kgf/cm2, 580 to 1885 psi).

Result:

HINT: *: The value must change when the engine is run or stopped.

C -- CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS
B -- INSPECT FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR
A -- Continue to next step.

2. INSPECT ECM (VC VOLTAGE)

(a) Disconnect the fuel pressure sensor connector.
(b) Turn the engine switch on (IG).
(c) Measure the voltage between the terminals of the fuel pressure sensor connector.
Standard voltage:

(d) Reconnect the fuel pressure sensor connector.
NG -- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR - ECM)
OK -- Continue to next step.

3. INSPECT FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR
(a) Inspect the fuel pressure sensor Testing and Inspection.
NG -- REPLACE FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR
OK -- Continue to next step.

4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR - ECM)

(a) Disconnect the fuel pressure sensor connector.
(b) Disconnect the ECM connectors.
(c) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard resistance (Check for open):

Standard resistance (Check for short):

(d) Reconnect the fuel pressure sensor connector.
(e) Reconnect the ECM connectors.
NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- REPLACE ECM
