P0A94-587 - DC / DC Converter Performance

HYBRID / BATTERY CONTROL: HYBRID CONTROL SYSTEM: P0A94-587: DC / DC Converter Performance
P0A94-587 - DC / DC Converter Performance

DESCRIPTION

The MG ECU uses a voltage sensor that is built into the boost converter to detect pre-boost high voltage (VL) to allow boost control. The boost converter voltage sensor outputs a voltage that varies between 0 and 5 V in accordance with changes in pre-boost voltage (VL). The higher the pre-boost voltage, the higher the sensor output voltage. Conversely, the lower the pre-boost voltage, the lower the output voltage. The MG ECU monitors the boost converter voltage sensor signal line and detects a malfunction.

The MG ECU uses a voltage sensor that is built into the boost converter to detect the high voltage (VL) before it is boosted. The hybrid vehicle control ECU also uses the battery smart unit to detect HV battery voltage (VB).

HINT
Using the Techstream, check the Data List of HV battery voltage and current. If these values are not within the below range, there is a battery smart unit malfunction.

MONITOR DESCRIPTION

The hybrid vehicle control ECU monitors the signals of the HV battery voltage (VB) and boost converter voltage (VL) sensors. When a large difference occurs between the voltages from the VB and VL sensors, the hybrid vehicle control ECU interprets this as a failure of either of the sensors. The hybrid vehicle control ECU will illuminate the MIL and set a DTC.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

PROCEDURE

1. CHECK DTC OUTPUT (HV)

(a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.

(b) Turn the power switch on (IG).

(c) Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Trouble Codes.

(d) Check if DTCs are output.

Result:

C -- GO TO DTC CHART (P0A94-585)

B -- REPLACE INVERTER WITH CONVERTER ASSEMBLY Components

A -- GO TO DTC CHART (P0A1F-129)
D -- Continue to next step.

2. CLEAR DTC

(a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.

(b) Turn the power switch on (IG).

(c) Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Trouble Codes.

(d) Clear DTCs and freeze frame data.

(e) Turn the power switch off.

NEXT -- Continue to next step.

3. CHECK DTC OUTPUT (HV)

(a) Turn the power switch on (READY) and move the shift lever to N. (*1)

(b) Turn the A/C switch to the MAX COOL position. (*2)

(c) Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Data List / Power Resource IB.

(d) Confirm that "Power Resource IB" is more than 3 A. (*3)

(e) Leave the vehicle in the condition specified in steps (*2) and (*3) above for 15 seconds. (*4)

NOTICE:
If the low battery charge warning light comes on, push the P position switch (transmission shift main switch) and start the engine to charge the HV battery. After the engine stops, perform steps (*1) through (*5) again.

(f) Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Trouble Codes.

(g) Check if DTCs are output. (*5)

Result:

D -- REPLACE BATTERY SMART UNIT Components

C -- LEAVE VEHICLE WITH PARK (P) SELECTED, AND CHARGE HV BATTERY IN IDLE STATUS UNTIL IDLING STOPS (PERFORM STEPS (*1) THROUGH (*5))

B -- REPLACE INVERTER WITH CONVERTER ASSEMBLY Components

A -- REPLACE BATTERY SMART UNIT Components
E -- Continue to next step.

4. CHECK DTC OUTPUT (HV)

(a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. (*6)

(b) Perform a road test that repeats full acceleration to 60 km/h (37.3 mph) and then full braking to a complete stop several times. (*7)

(c) Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Trouble Codes. (*8)

(d) Check if DTCs are output. (*9)

Result:

D -- REPLACE BATTERY SMART UNIT Components

C -- LEAVE VEHICLE WITH PARK (P) SELECTED, AND CHARGE HV BATTERY IN IDLE STATUS UNTIL IDLING STOPS (PERFORM STEPS (*6) THROUGH (*9))

B -- REPLACE INVERTER WITH CONVERTER ASSEMBLY Components

A -- REPLACE BATTERY SMART UNIT Components
E -- Continue to next step.

5. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM

(a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.

(b) Turn the power switch on (READY).

(c) Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Data List / Power Resource VB, VL-Voltage before Boosting, VH-Voltage after Boosting.

(d) Read the data list with neutral (N) selected (the engine is off) and the vehicle stationary.

Result:

(e) Turn the power switch off.

C -- REPLACE BATTERY SMART UNIT Components

B -- REPLACE INVERTER WITH CONVERTER ASSEMBLY Components
A -- Continue to next step.

6. CHECK FREEZE FRAME DATA

(a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.

(b) Turn the power switch on (IG).

(c) Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Trouble Codes.

(d) Read the freeze frame data of DTC P0A94-587.

Result:

(e) Turn the power switch off.

C -- REPLACE INVERTER WITH CONVERTER ASSEMBLY Components

B -- REPLACE BATTERY SMART UNIT Components
