P2119
2AZ-FXE ENGINE CONTROL: SFI SYSTEM: P2119: Throttle Actuator Control Throttle Body Range / Performance
P2119 - Throttle Actuator Control Throttle Body Range / Performance
DESCRIPTION
The electronic throttle control system is composed of the throttle actuator, throttle position sensor, accelerator pedal position sensor, and hybrid vehicle control ECU. The hybrid vehicle control ECU operates the throttle actuator to regulate the throttle valve in response to driver inputs. The throttle position sensor detects the opening angle of the throttle valve, and provides the hybrid vehicle control ECU with feedback so that the throttle valve can be appropriately controlled by the hybrid vehicle control ECU.
MONITOR DESCRIPTION
The hybrid vehicle control ECU determines the actual opening angle of the throttle valve from the throttle position sensor signal. The actual opening angle is compared to the target opening angle commanded by the hybrid vehicle control ECU. If the difference between these 2 values is outside the standard range, the hybrid vehicle control ECU interprets this as a malfunction in the electronic throttle control system. The hybrid vehicle control ECU then illuminates the MIL and stores the DTC.
If the malfunction is not repaired successfully, the DTC is stored when the accelerator pedal is quickly released (to close the throttle valve) after the engine speed reaches 5000 rpm by depressing the accelerator pedal (fully open the throttle valve).
MONITOR STRATEGY
TYPICAL ENABLING CONDITIONS
TYPICAL MALFUNCTION THRESHOLDS
CONFIRMATION DRIVING PATTERN
- Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
- Turn the power switch on (IG) and turn the Techstream on.
- Clear the DTCs DTC Check / Clear.
- Turn the power switch off and wait for at least 30 seconds.
- Turn the power switch on (IG) and turn the Techstream on [A].
- Put the engine in inspection mode Component Tests and General Diagnostics.
- Start the engine.
- Idle the engine for 20 seconds.
- Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.
- Read the DTC [B].
HINT
- If a DTC is output, the system is malfunctioning.
- If a DTC is not output, perform the following procedure.
- Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Utility / All Readiness.
- Input the DTC: P2119.
- Check the DTC judgment result.
HINT
- If the judgment result shows ABNORMAL, the system has a malfunction.
- If the judgment result shows INCOMPLETE or UNKNOWN, fully depress and release the accelerator pedal 3 times and then check the DTC judgment result [C].
FAIL-SAFE
When this DTC, as well as other DTCs relating to electronic throttle control system malfunctions is stored, the hybrid vehicle control ECU enters fail-safe mode. During fail-safe mode, the hybrid vehicle control ECU cuts the current to the throttle actuator, and the throttle valve is returned to a 6.5° throttle angle by the return spring. The hybrid vehicle control ECU stops the engine and the vehicle can be driven using solely the hybrid system. If the accelerator pedal is depressed firmly and gently, the vehicle can be driven slowly. Fail-safe mode continues until a pass condition is detected, and the power switch is then turned off.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE
HINT
Read freeze frame data using the Techstream. The hybrid vehicle control ECU records vehicle and driving condition information as freeze frame data the moment a DTC is stored. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air fuel ratio was lean or rich, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.
PROCEDURE
1. CHECK ANY OTHER DTCS OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P2119)
(a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
(b) Turn the power switch on (IG).
(c) Turn the Techstream on.
(d) Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.
(e) Read the DTCs.
Result:
HINT
If any DTCs other than P2119 are output, troubleshoot those DTCs first.
B -- GO TO DTC CHART SFI System
A -- Continue to next step.
2. INSPECT THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY (RESISTANCE OF THROTTLE ACTUATOR)
NG -- REPLACE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY Removal
OK -- Continue to next step.
3. REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU
(a) Replace the hybrid vehicle control ECU Removal.
NEXT -- Continue to next step.
4. CHECK WHETHER DTC OUTPUT RECURS (DTC P2119)
(a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
(b) Turn the power switch on (IG).
(c) Turn the Techstream on.
(d) Clear the DTCs DTC Check / Clear.
(e) Put the engine in inspection mode Component Tests and General Diagnostics.
(f) Allow the engine to idle for 20 seconds or more.
(g) Fully depress and release the accelerator pedal 3 times quickly.
(h) Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.
(i) Read the DTCs.
HINT
The output voltage of the throttle position sensor can be checked using the Techstream. Variations in the output voltage indicate that the throttle actuator is in operation. To check the output voltage using the Techstream, enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / Throttle Position No. 1.
Result:
B -- REPLACE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY Removal
A -- END
