Luggage Compartment Door Entry Unlock Function Does Not Operate When Key Is Outside Luggage Compartment
THEFT DETERRENT / KEYLESS ENTRY: SMART ACCESS SYSTEM WITH PUSH-BUTTON START (for Entry Function): Luggage Compartment Door Entry Unlock Function does not Operate when Key is Outside Luggage Compartment
- Luggage Compartment Door Entry Unlock Function does not Operate when Key is Outside Luggage Compartment
DESCRIPTION
When the entry luggage compartment open function does not operate, one of the following may be the cause: 1) luggage compartment door opener outer switch malfunction; 2) communication malfunction with the outside electrical key oscillator (for luggage compartment); 3) the main body ECU LH (cowl side junction block LH) receives the luggage compartment door opener outer switch ON signal, but is unable to send the signal to the certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) through BEAN communication; or 4) certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) malfunction.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE
NOTICE:
* The smart access system with push-button start (for entry function) uses a LIN communication system and BEAN communication system. Inspect the communication function by following How to Proceed with Troubleshooting How To Proceed With Troubleshooting. Troubleshoot the smart access system with push-button start (for entry function) after confirming that the communication system is functioning properly.
* Confirm that another key is not in the cabin.
PROCEDURE
1. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT DOOR OPEN MODE)
(a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
(b) Turn the engine switch on (IG).
(c) Turn the Techstream on.
(d) Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Smart Access / Data List.
(e) Read the Data List according to the display on the Techstream.
Smart Access (Certification ECU (Smart Key ECU Assembly))
Result:
B -- PERFORM CUSTOMIZE SETTING (Proceed to Customize Parameters) Smart Access System With Push-Button Start (for Entry Function)
A -- Continue to next step.
2. CHECK LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT DOOR OPENER SYSTEM (OPEN OPERATION)
(a) When the luggage compartment door opener inner switch is operated, check that the luggage compartment door opens Operation Check.
OK:
Luggage compartment door opens.
NG -- GO TO LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT DOOR OPENER SYSTEM (Proceed to Luggage Compartment Door Opener does not Operate) Luggage Compartment Door Opener Does Not Operate
OK -- Continue to next step.
3. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT DOOR OPENER SWITCH)
(a) Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Body No. 3 / Data List.
(b) Read the Data List according to the display on the Techstream.
Body No. 3 (Main Body ECU LH (Cowl Side Junction Block LH))
OK:
On the Techstream screen, the display changes between ON and OFF according to the chart above.
NG -- INSPECT LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT DOOR OPENER OUTER SWITCH
OK -- Continue to next step.
4. CHECK WAVE ENVIRONMENT
(a) Bring the key near the outside electrical key oscillator (for luggage compartment), and perform an entry luggage compartment open function check.
NOTICE:
If the key is brought within 0.2 m (0.656 ft.) of the rear bumper, communication is not possible.
HINT
* When pressing the luggage compartment door opener outer switch, hold the key about 1 m (3.28 ft.) above the ground and about 0.3 m (0.984 ft.) away from the vehicle as shown in the illustration.
* When the key is brought near the outside electrical key oscillator (for luggage compartment), the possibility of wave interference decreases, and it can be determined if wave interference is causing the problem symptom.
* If the operation check is normal, the possibility of wave interference is high. Also, added vehicle components may cause wave interference. If installed, remove them and perform the operation check.
OK:
Entry functions operate normally.
NG -- PERFORM KEY DIAGNOSTIC MODE INSPECTION
OK -- AFFECTED BY WAVE INTERFERENCE
5. PERFORM KEY DIAGNOSTIC MODE INSPECTION
(a) Diagnostic mode inspection (outside electrical key oscillator (for luggage compartment))
(1) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
(2) Turn the engine switch on (IG).
(3) Turn the Techstream on.
(4) Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Smart Access / Utility / Communication Check (Key Diag Mode) / Overhead + Luggage (outside).
(5) When the key is held at the same height as the rear bumper upper surface aligning it with the center of the rear of the vehicle, check that the wireless door lock buzzer sounds.
HINT
* Hold the key at the same height as the rear bumper upper surface and align with the center of the rear of the vehicle (0.7 to 1.0 m (2.30 to 3.28 ft.)). Make sure that the direction of the key is as shown in the illustration.
* If the buzzer sounds, it can be determined that the luggage compartment exterior transmitter is operating normally.
OK:
Wireless door lock buzzer sounds.
NG -- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (CERTIFICATION ECU - OUTSIDE ELECTRICAL KEY OSCILLATOR)
OK -- REPLACE CERTIFICATION ECU (SMART KEY ECU ASSEMBLY) Removal
6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (CERTIFICATION ECU - OUTSIDE ELECTRICAL KEY OSCILLATOR)
(a) Disconnect the certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) connector.
(b) Disconnect the outside electrical key oscillator (for luggage compartment) connector.
(c) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Resistance:
Text in Illustration
NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- Continue to next step.
7. REPLACE OUTSIDE ELECTRICAL KEY OSCILLATOR (for Luggage Compartment)
(a) Replace the outside electrical key oscillator (for luggage compartment) Removal.
NEXT -- Continue to next step.
8. CHECK OUTSIDE ELECTRICAL KEY OSCILLATOR (LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT OPERATION)
(a) Check that the entry functions operate normally Operation Check.
OK:
Entry functions operate normally.
NG -- REPLACE CERTIFICATION ECU (SMART KEY ECU ASSEMBLY) Removal
OK -- END (OUTSIDE ELECTRICAL KEY OSCILLATOR WAS DEFECTIVE)
9. INSPECT LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT DOOR OPENER OUTER SWITCH
(a) Remove the luggage compartment door opener outer switch Removal.
(b) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Resistance:
Text in Illustration
NG -- REPLACE LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT DOOR OPENER OUTER SWITCH Removal
OK -- Continue to next step.
10. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (MAIN BODY ECU LH - OPENER SWITCH)
(a) Disconnect the main body ECU LH (cowl side junction block LH) connector.
(b) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Resistance:
Text in Illustration
NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- REPLACE MAIN BODY ECU LH (COWL SIDE JUNCTION BLOCK LH)
