How To Proceed With Troubleshooting
THEFT DETERRENT / KEYLESS ENTRY: ENGINE IMMOBILIZER SYSTEM: HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING
HINT
* Use the following procedure to troubleshoot the engine immobilizer system.
* *: Using the Techstream.
1. VEHICLE BROUGHT TO WORKSHOP
NEXT -- Continue to next step.
2. CUSTOMER PROBLEM ANALYSIS
HINT
* When troubleshooting, confirm that the problem symptoms have been accurately identified. Preconceptions should be discarded in order to make an accurate judgment. To clearly understand what the problem symptoms are, it is extremely important to ask the customer about the problem and the conditions at the time the malfunction occurred.
* Gather as much information as possible for reference. Past problems that seem unrelated may also help in some cases.
The following 5 items are important points in the problem analysis:
NEXT -- Continue to next step.
3. INSPECT BATTERY VOLTAGE
(a) Measure the battery voltage.
Standard Voltage:
11 to 14 V
If the voltage is below 11 V, recharge or replace the battery before proceeding to the next step.
NEXT -- Continue to next step.
4. CRANK ENGINE FOR MORE THAN 10 SECONDS
NEXT -- Continue to next step.
5. CHECK FOR DTCS*
(a) Check for DTCs and note any codes that are output.
(b) Clear the DTCs.
(c) Recheck for DTCs. Based on the DTCs output above, try to duplicate the SFI system DTC, engine immobilizer system DTC, steering lock system DTC, multiplex communication system DTC or smart access system with push button start (starting) DTC by simulating the symptoms indicated by the DTCs.
Result:
A -- Go to DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART SFI System
B -- Go to DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART Engine Immobilizer System
C -- Go to DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART Steering Lock System
D -- Go to DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART Multiplex Communication System
E -- Go to DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART Smart Access System With Push-Button Start (for Start Function)
F -- Continue to next step.
6. PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE
(a) Refer to Problem Symptoms Table [1][2]Engine Immobilizer System.
Result:
A -- Go to step 8
B -- Continue to next step.
7. OVERALL ANALYSIS AND TROUBLESHOOTING*
(a) Data List / Active Test Engine Immobilizer System
(b) Terminals of ECU Engine Immobilizer System
NEXT -- Continue to next step.
8. REPAIR OR REPLACE
NEXT -- Continue to next step.
9. CONFIRMATION TEST
NEXT -- END
