Open in CAN Main Bus Line

CAN COMMUNICATION: CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM: Open in CAN Main Bus Line
- Open in CAN Main Bus Line

DESCRIPTION

There may be an open circuit in the CAN No. 1 main bus wire and/or the DLC3 branch wire when the resistance between terminals 6 (CANH) and 14 (CANL) of the DLC3 is 69 Ohms or more.

WIRING DIAGRAM

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

NOTICE:
Before measuring the resistance, leave the vehicle as is for at least 1 minute and do not operate the engine switch, any other switches, or the doors. If any doors need to be opened in order to check connectors, open the doors and leave them open.

PROCEDURE

1. CHECK DLC3

(a) Turn the engine switch off.

(b) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Result:

NOTICE:
When the measured value is 132 Ohms or higher and a CAN communication system diagnostic trouble code is output, there may be a fault besides disconnection of the DLC3 branch wire. For that reason, troubleshooting should be performed again from "HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING" How to Proceed With Troubleshooting after repairing the trouble area.

B -- REPAIR OR REPLACE DLC3 BRANCH WIRE OR CONNECTOR
A -- Continue to next step.

2. CHECK FOR OPEN IN CAN NO. 1 BUS MAIN WIRE (COMBINATION METER MAIN BUS WIRE)

(a) Disconnect CAN main bus wire connector E48 from the CAN No. 2 J/C "B" side (without earth terminal).

NOTICE:
* Before disconnecting the connector, make a note of where it is connected.
* Reconnect the connector to its original position.

(b) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard resistance:

NG -- CHECK FOR OPEN IN CAN NO. 1 BUS MAIN WIRE (COMBINATION METER - CAN NO. 2 J/C)
OK -- Continue to next step.

3. CHECK FOR OPEN IN CAN NO. 1 BUS MAIN WIRE (CAN NO. 2 J/C)

(a) Reconnect CAN main bus wire connector E48 to the CAN No. 2 J/C "B" side (without earth terminal).

(b) Disconnect CAN main bus wire connector E42 from the CAN No. 2 J/C "A" side (with earth terminal).

NOTICE:
* Before disconnecting the connector, make a note of where it is connected.
* Reconnect the connector to its original position.

(c) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard resistance:

OK -- REPLACE CAN NO. 2 J/C
NG -- Continue to next step.

4. CHECK FOR OPEN IN CAN NO. 1 BUS MAIN WIRE (CAN NO. 2 J/C - CAN NO. 5 J/C)

(a) Reconnect CAN main bus wire connector E42 to the CAN No. 2 J/C "A" side (with earth terminal).

(b) Disconnect CAN main bus wire connector E34 from the CAN No. 5 J/C (rear side of the vehicle).

(c) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard resistance:

NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE CAN NO. 1 BUS MAIN WIRE OR CONNECTOR (CAN NO. 2 J/C - CAN NO. 5 J/C)
OK -- Continue to next step.

5. CHECK FOR OPEN IN CAN NO. 1 BUS MAIN WIRE (CAN NO. 5 J/C)

(a) Reconnect CAN main bus wire connector E34 to the CAN No. 5 J/C (rear side of the vehicle).

(b) Disconnect CAN main bus wire connector A26 from the CAN No. 5 J/C (front side of the vehicle).

(c) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard resistance:

OK -- REPLACE CAN NO. 5 J/C
NG -- Continue to next step.

6. CHECK FOR OPEN IN CAN NO. 1 BUS MAIN WIRE (ECM CAN MAIN BUS LINE)

(a) Reconnect CAN main bus wire connector A26 to the CAN No. 5 J/C (front side of the vehicle).

(b) Disconnect the ECM connector.

(c) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard resistance:

OK -- REPLACE ECM Components

NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE CAN NO. 1 BUS MAIN WIRE OR CONNECTOR (CAN NO. 5 J/C - ECM)

7. CHECK FOR OPEN IN CAN NO. 1 BUS MAIN WIRE (COMBINATION METER - CAN NO. 2 J/C)

(a) Reconnect CAN main bus wire connector E48 to the CAN No. 2 J/C B side (without earth terminal).

(b) Disconnect combination meter connector E19.

(c) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard resistance:

OK -- REPLACE COMBINATION METER Components

NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE CAN NO. 1 BUS MAIN WIRE OR CONNECTOR (CAN NO. 2 J/C - COMBINATION METER)
